Why Heidi D'Amelio Almost Quit
Heidi revealed per PageSix, why she almost gave up on the competition. The influencer explained that rehearsals were stressing her out. She said that they made her so frustrated that she almost broke down in tears many times.
Heidi said, "So, I was fine up until last Tuesday, and then Wednesday, rehearsal was awful, and I was on the verge of crying." However, she went on because she didn't want to disappoint her dance partner. "I was like, 'I am not going to let [Artem] see me cry, I am not going to do that.'"
While she remained positive, it wasn't easy to keep going. She continued, "I struggled the entire rehearsal, for three hours, and then I went home, and I rehearsed until, like, four in the morning. And then I came back a little bit better the next day but it wasn't great." Because of how hard it was to keep going, she started doubting herself, which affected her self-esteem.
Her Daughter Charli D'Amelio Encouraged Her
Heidi also recalled telling Charli that she wanted to "walk away from" the competition. "Like, I'm not going to be able to do it.'" "I came back that Friday, and I don't know what happened. Everything sort of settled in."
While it's normal to have second thoughts sometimes, this was a few days before the show's premiere on September 19th. However, things changed after she spoke to Charli. The TikTok star, who has danced for over ten years, understood her mom and encouraged her.
"She told me everything I used to tell her when she was a kid and in dance," Heidi shared. She also revealed how inspired she was by her daughter. "To hear those words coming out of her mouth to me, I was like, 'Alright, I get it.' It was great advice."
Heidi also thanked Dixie D'Amelio, her 21-year-old daughter, for her "super" emotional support. She said, "They (her daughters) were like, 'You're all in your head, stop it right now! So, they helped get me out of that."
Charli D'Amelio Is Proud Of Her Mom
The TikTok star also spoke about her mom's nerves in a Monday interview with PageSix. She explained that her mom was anxious because she hadn't danced in front of that many people before. Charli said, "I think for my mom, it's trying something new. And knowing that you're going to perform in front of so many people, I think would be extremely nerve-wracking for anyone."
The dancer also explained that her mom never got the chance to "be at the forefront of" performances because she was busy taking care of her and her sister. The D'Amelio Matriarch finally got a chance to perform and got a score of 24/40 for her debut.
Charli also admitted that her mom Heidi, was "down a little bit" a few days before the show started. However, she "brought it" with her performance and the social media star was "super proud of her."
She Likes Competing With Her Mom
The D'Amelios set the "DWTS" record for being the first family members to compete against each other on the show. While they're on different teams, the two are excited about dancing on the show together. Charli said, "We all talked a little bit during rehearsal, the four of us, it was a great time. I can't wait to see what her and Artem bring to the stage next week."
Heidi danced to "Lady Marmalade" by Lil Kim, Mya, Christina Aguilera and P!nk at the premiere and was praised by judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough, Bruno Tonioli, and Len Goodman. They were even more impressed by Charli's performance as they rated her 32/40, which was the day's highest score.
The star performed a Cha Cha to "Savage by Megan Thee Stallion (Major Lazer Remix)." The mother and daughter will go against each other again when the show returns on Disney+ next Monday.
