While still mourning, the British royalty recently honored their late revered monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, with their dutiful appearance at her funeral on Monday, September 19.
Everyone appeared to attend the Westminster Abbey service, including the deceased's grandson Prince William and his wife, Princess Kate Middleton. Naturally, the royal couple's oldest kids were also present, counting their first daughter, Princess Charlotte, who was seen shedding tears given such a distressing event.
Princess Charlotte Honors The Late Queen With Tears And A Sentimental Brooch
Based on two newly obtained pictures of the royal rites, the first showed the seven-year-old sobbing with her hands covering her eyes as her face was turned away from the camera. She was amidst several people dressed in black mourning clothes, including her suit-clad brother, Prince George standing behind her. However, her brother wore a dark blue suit.
Charlotte wore black for the service and was smartly dressed in a coat, matching pantyhose, and flat shoes. In addition, her blonde hair was covered with a wide black hat. Another photo showed the immediate royal family members from a top angle, appearing to be in a neutrally tiled hall.
Prince Harry and Prince Williams were in the group, and their respective spouses, Meghan Markle and Princess Kate Middleton. Charlotte and her brother were also included. King Charles and his wife, Camilla Queen Consort, also featured.
PEOPLE shared an update about Princess Charlotte wearing her first piece of historic jewelry to the ceremony. She donned a diamond horseshoe brooch attached to the left side of her black coat, paying homage to the late Queen's passion for horses.
It is also worth knowing that the significant accessory was given to the youngster as a gift from her great-grandmother. Furthermore, wearing a hat to the rite was a first for Charlotte and a custom for British women when attending formal ceremonies.
Queen Elizabeth II was widely known for wearing her array of brooches and royal ornaments for sentimental reasons or as an ambassadorial gesture on foreign visits abroad. The dressing tip was passed onto the new Princess of Wales, who had previously taken pieces on loan from the Queen's collection for royal events.
Princess Kate did so again, honoring Queen Elizabeth II's memory by wearing two jewelry pieces to the burial. She arrived at the venue donning the Bahrain Pearl Drop Earrings and a four-strand pearl choker with a diamond clasp at the center. The earrings were a gift to the Queen for her 1947 wedding while she wore the magnificent choker to a state banquet in Bangladesh in 1983.
Another event where Princess Kate wore the jewelry to was the 2021 funeral of Queen Elizabeth's husband, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. She was also seen with the pearl drop earrings at the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June.
Regarding the Prince and Princess of Wales's kids' presence at the recent funeral, the parents considered bringing them to the spotlight. Still, they remembered that the children attended Prince Philip's memorial in March. Even so, the young Prince Louis, another of Charlotte's siblings, was possibly regarded as too young to join the family for the Monday ceremony.
Princess Charlotte And Her Brother Have Special Roles At Their Great Grandmother's Funeral
A day before laying the late Queen to rest in Westminster Abbey, PEOPLE reported that George and Charlotte had a unique role at the service. The youngsters were set to walk behind the coffin for the procession, following right behind their parents and in front of their uncle Prince Harry and aunt Meghan Markle.
However, they were not included in the service order for the interment service held later in the day at St. George's Chapel in Windsor Castle. Fans may be aware that Prince George and Princess Charlotte are a few years younger than their father was when he appeared at the age of 15, at his mom Princess Diana's burial in 1997.
Additionally, the recent "ceremonial procession" of the aged monarch's coffin from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall the previous week reminded Prince William of his mother's rite following her death.
