Kody Brown is not ready to accept his split from Christine.
The pair gained prominence thanks to their appearance on "Sister Wives," — the long-running TLC show that started in 2010 and follows the Brown family patriarch Kody and his wives in their polygamous marriage.
While Robyn, Meri, and Janelle Brown are all married to Kody, a fourth woman who was also in the marriage, Christine, publicly announced her split from him after 26 years together.
Kody Brown "Can't Let Go" Of Relationship With His Ex-Wife Christine Brown
Per a report from PEOPLE, Kody opened up about how Christine's decision to leave their plural union affected him. Speaking to the cameras during this week's episode of "Sister Wives," the 53-year-old said:
"This feels like a major injustice that's being done to me, and it galls me. I just can't let it go. I don't know why it's such a struggle. It's curling my toes. I need some grief counseling or something. I don't know what's going on here with my attachment. I can't let go."
As the conversation continued, the reality star realized that he could have handled the news of their split better. He told Christine that he wanted to apologize for "being so angry," adding that he would have to do "a lot of introspection," while getting to a place where he could "rejoice about your happiness and your freedom."
Kody's turmoil began when Christine announced on social media that their spiritual marriage was over in November 2021. Before their breakup, the 50-year-old shared a life with her husband and her cowives in Flagstaff, Arizona. She was also not one to shy away from disclosing intimate details about her relationship with Kody. In fact, according to The Blast, the mother-of-six previously spoke about how unsatisfying their sex life was.
In the premiere episode of "Sister Wives" season 17, Christine claimed that Kody did not inform her that he was not interested in getting intimate with her. Although her ex-husband refuted the claims, stating that they got intimate, he noted that it was limited due to the polygamous nature of their union. In his words:
"You and I have intimacy and love in the relationship. I'm sorry, it's conditional based upon being part of a plural family."
During a solo confessional interview, Christine appeared so frustrated by the argument with Kody that she called him an "a–hole." The reality star also accused the 53-year-old of using her relationship with his other wives to judge her attractiveness. As it turned out, her former beau had a favorite wife and was upset she [the wife] was not being treated "well enough" by Christine.
The Father-Of-18 Reflected On What Went Wrong With His Marriage
Earlier this year, The Blast reported that Kody first opened up about Christine's shocking decision to walk away from their marriage during the February 20 "Sister Wives" reunion special. While speaking to the reunion host, Sukanya Krishnan, the father of 18 admitted that he had sometimes displayed arrogance rather than validating his ex-wife's feelings.
He stated that he had been unaware that Christine had doubts about remaining in their marriage and only learned of her unhappiness while watching things unfold on their show. The "My 4 Wives" star divulged that even though he heard certain speculations from his children about Christine saying she would file for a divorce, he was too preoccupied to notice:
"I mean, I had heard rumors from my children that she had been kind of throwing things around and even other wives saying, 'Oh, she's always threatened that she was going to leave.' And I'm like, 'Why am I in the dark here?'"
Despite that, Kody maintained that Christine's choice of leaving the marriage was not a spur-of-the-moment action as he called their breakup "a singular moment that has been building up for years." The Wyoming-born celeb also accused his ex-wife of complaining about everything in her life, making it difficult for him to please her fully.
To that end, Kody claimed he has "been trying to make her happy all the time," which was a "constant burden" that pointed to "something missing." However, he chalked it up to being in a "plural marriage."
