Pat Sajak Admits 'The End Is Near' For His 'Wheel Of Fortune' Hosting Days

Host Pat Sajak might be getting ready to wrap up his time hosting “Wheel of Fortune.”

The popular game show first premiered in 1975 and Sajak, now 75, has hosted the show since 1981. However, it seems that the Emmy-award-winning game show host is potentially considering retiring and going out on a high note.

In a recent interview with ET’s Kevin Frazier, Sajak admitted that he is probably going to retire long before the show reaches its end.

"In most television shows by this time, you would have said, 'That’s probably enough,' but this show will not die," he said of “Wheel of Fortune,” adding, “It appears I may go before the show.”

"Years go by fast,” he admitted. “We're getting near the end. It's been a long [time]. We're not gonna do this for another 40 years. The end is near.”

“It's an honor to have been in people's living rooms for that long,” he added. “People were out there welcoming us. We're happy and proud.”

Even though he might not be hosting “Wheel of Fortune” forever, he and hostess Vanna White are excited to focus on the season 3 premiere of “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Vanna White opened up on what attracts audiences to celebrity game shows.

"I think people love seeing celebrities and watching them be themselves and not play a character," White said. "When they come on here, they are themselves, they have a good time, they're playing for a great cause, so it's good for everybody."

White is looking forward to seeing rapper Snoop Dogg compete in the season premiere on Sunday, September 25. "I met Snoop Dogg many, many years ago and he told me he was a big fan, so I can't wait to see if he's still a big fan," White revealed.

However, Pat Sajak really wants to meet one celebrity who has yet to compete. "I'm still pulling for Meryl Streep 'cause I wanna see her say, 'Come on, big money!'" he said, then joked, "That's all I want, but she won't come on because she found out you can't win an Oscar for this."

Plenty of Hollywood starts are ready to compete for a chance to win big money for the charity of their choice. "We wouldn't do this for charity unless we wanted the charities to do well, so we try to stack as much as we can in that regard,” Sajak said.

As The Blast previously reported, September 25 is not only the host of "Celebrity Wheel of Fortune," but "Celebrity Jeopardy!" as well.

The celebrity "Jeopardy!" spin-off series will be hosted by "Jeopardy!" co-host and "The Big Bang Theory" alum Mayim Bialik, who will be hosting the new hour-long episode. Ahead of its premiere, executive producer Michael Davies revealed that the show will have a brand new format to occupy its hour-long time frame. Instead of the usual two rounds, the show will actually feature three rounds.

In a video explaining the new changes, Davies revealed that the dollar amounts will triple by the third round, raising the stakes. In the first round, celebrity contestants will start out with $100 to $500 and then move up to $200 to $1000 in Double Jeopardy. In the Triple Jeopardy round, contestants will answer clues ranging in value from $300 to $1500. Although the new format might shake things up a bit, Davies still considers the "Final Jeopardy!" round to be the "great equalizer" when it comes to finalizing the matches.

In addition, Davies reminded fans watching along at home that celebrity contestants competing to win money for their charities didn't actually take the tests required for contestants to appear on the show, so some of the material may be a bit more elementary to the regular "Jeopardy!" viewer. “It’s a much more accessible show, I think, for an entire family,” he said.
