Pat Sajak recently took to Twitter to ask fans of the "Wheel of Fortune" show to "have a little heart" because of the massive amount of bullying going on. Contestants on the show were being dragged online for repeatedly failing to answer a common phrase.

In the show's episode, three contestants had issues solving an almost completed puzzle for the popular saying, "Another Feather In Your Cap." They took about eight turns and ten attempts to eventually get the correct answer.

The show host defended the contestants and explained how they were possibly feeling. He also mentioned that the fans couldn't understand how it felt unless they were on the show themselves and to be kinder to the contestants.

A recent episode of "Wheel of Fortune" sparked a lot of comments on social media. The contestants were asked to finish an almost completed puzzle for the phrase, "Another Feather in Your Cap." The answer all but eluded the contestants, and they made several incorrect guests.

They guessed the letters' G' and 'D' for the space of 'C' in Cap, and one contestant couldn't get the correct answer even after multiple attempts. She guessed "Hat" and "Lap" before figuring out that the right word had the letter 'P' in it. Even after the hint, the contestant incorrectly gave her final answer as "map."

This obviously annoyed a majority of the viewers, and they wasted no time in posting how they felt online. The negative comments were so much that the show host had to send out a plea on Twitter for viewers to stop the criticism.

In a lengthy Twitter post on Wednesday, Sajak defended the contestants and asked viewers to stop their negative comments. He wrote, "It always pains me when nice people come on our show to play a game and win some money and maybe fulfill a lifelong dream, and are then subject to online ridicule when they make a mistake or something goes awry."

Sajak also mentioned that while the puzzle might seem very easy to people at home, he was there in real-time and knew what was happening. He said that when he revealed that the first attempt, "Feather in your hat," was wrong, it threw the players off. This version is apparently how several people said the phrase.

The show host continued, "Now imagine you're on national TV, and you're suddenly thrown a curve, and you begin getting worried about looking stupid, and if the feather isn't in your hat, where the heck can it be? You start flailing away looking for alternatives rather than synonyms for 'hat.'"

"And, of course, when it's solved, you want to crawl in a hole," Sajak added. "I've been praised online for 'keeping it together' and not making fun of the players. Truth is, all I want to do is help them get through it and convince them that those things happen even to very bright people."

Sajak Asked Viewers To Stop Mocking The Contestants

The show host added that the contestants were good people in a bad situation that viewers who were at home couldn't understand "from the comfort of your couch." He also said that while he didn't have a problem with good-natured laughter, this was way more and that the viewers should "cut them some slack."

"I have fun with players, and I tease them occasionally, but when things go wrong, I feel for them, and I try to salve wounds on camera and off," he said. "So, yeah, it was an oddly entertaining puzzle, and it's okay to laugh at the situation. But have a little heart."

He also added that the viewers could be on the stage one day, and being a Twitter trend wasn't the dream of anyone. "After all, you may be there one day. And no one wants to be trending on Twitter."

Fans' Reactions To The Game Show Episode

Several fans who were frustrated by the contestants' multiple attempts to guess the phrase took to Twitter to vent their frustration. One wrote, "We live in the stupidest times #WheelOfFortune." Another account posted, "Hey, if you feel like screaming at the tv in agony and want to throw something at your screen, round 2 of tonight's Wheel of Fortune is perfect for you."

A viewer posted a video of the episode captioned, "Your going to want to sit down before watching this." Another tweeted, "I am in tears." "This might have been the worst two minutes stretch in 'Wheel of Fortune' history," someone said.

A post read, "The woman on Wheel of Fortune got not one but TWO chances to solve this. First time, she said '... in your LAP.' Second time, she said 'MAP.' I am in utter disbelief." Another viewer commented, "'How have all 3 contestants on wheel of fortune right now never heard the phrase 'another feather in your cap'?? This is madness!!!"
