During an appearance on the TODAY show on Thursday, September 15, the "House of the Dragons" star revealed that he has met several members of the Royal Family.

“I met the now-King Charles [III], I told him that he had fabulous shoes," Smith said before he recalled that he met Prince Harry "once at the Polo."

“He walked up to me and he went, ‘Grand-dad,’ because he watched the show,” he explained. “I heard the Queen had watched it, yeah, and she used to watch it on a projector on a Sunday night, apparently.”

Smith said that Prince Philip, who passed away last year ahead of his 100th birthday, was not a fan of the show, adding, "I know that Philip definitely didn't [watch it]."

“A friend of mine sat next to him at dinner once and he asked him. Actually, I think Philip asked my friend if he made ‘The Crown,’” Smith recalled. “My friend couldn’t resist. By the end of the meal he was like, ‘Philip, I have to ask, have you watched ‘The Crown?’ And [Philip] apparently turned around to him [saying], ‘Don’t be ridiculous.’”

It seems that the 39-year-old actor has met quite a few members of the British family. In 2016, he appeared on The Graham Norton Show, where he recalled meeting Prince Willliam "very briefly in a lineup at the polo."

“The lady who was doing the lineup said, ‘This is Matt and he’s about to play Prince Philip.’ And then she said, ‘Have you got any advice for him?’” Smith recalled. “And then I thought, ‘God, I’m going to die.’ All [William] said was, ‘Legend. He’s an absolute legend.’”

Although it's unclear if Prince William has seen the show, Prince Harry has admitted to watching the show. During an appearance on "The Late Show With James Corden" in February (via Page Six), Harry said, "They don't pretend to be news. It's fictional."

“But it’s loosely based on the truth," he admitted. "Of course, it’s not strictly accurate. … It gives you a rough idea of what that lifestyle, what the pressures of putting duty and service above family and everything else, what can come from that.”

Harry continued to say that he is "way more comfortable" watching "The Crown" than seeing "the stories written about [his] family," or his wife, Meghan Markle. "It’s the difference between [‘The Crown’] which is obviously fiction, take it how you will, but this is being reported on as fact because you’re supposedly news," he said. "I have a real issue with that.”

After Queen Elizabeth II passed away, "The Crown" briefly paused production on the show's sixth history, out of respect for the late Queen, who was the longest reigning monarch in the country's long history.

In a statement to Deadline, creator Peter Morgan said, “'The Crown' is a love letter to her and I’ve nothing to add, for now, just silence and respect. I expect we will stop filming out of respect too.”
