Jimmy Kimmel is looking back at the 2022 Emmys, which were held on Monday, with a little bit of regret.

As you might know, the talk show host has been on the receiving end of backlash for seemingly causing a distraction during Quinta Brunson's acceptance speech at the award ceremony. Now, Kimmel is apologizing for his behavior and sharing his intentions.

Jimmy Kimmel Apologizes To Quinta Brunson

On Wednesday, Brunson made her first talk show appearance since winning her first Emmy on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" The actress stunned in an exquisite pink dress with feathered sleeves and sequin designs all over. She paired the dress with matching pink sky-high stilettos.

As soon as Brunson settled down in the guest seat, Kimmel proceeded to congratulate her on her historic Emmy win for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series for her hit show, "Abbott Elementary." He then joked that he "missed" the moment before touching on the controversial subject.

The television host explained what happened, showing a video of the incident where Brunson tried to wake him up during her acceptance speech, noting it was a comedic bit that went wrong.

"Now, that was a dumb comedic bit we [Kimmel and Will Arnett] thought would be funny. I lost, and then I drank too much, then I had to be dragged out on the stage, and then people got upset. They said I stole your moment." he explained.

Owning his actions and agreeing that he might have indeed stolen Brunson's moment, Kimmel continued, "Maybe I did, and I'm very sorry if I did do that. I'm sorry I did do that actually. And also, the last thing I would ever want to do is upset you because I think so much of you, and I think you know that. I hope you know that."

The "She Memes Well" author was evidently touched by Kimmel's apology, saying, "Well, Jimmy let me just say thank you. It is very kind of you to say that. She then further clarified how she felt at the moment, adding, "I was honestly in such a moment of having a good time like I won my first Emmy! I was up there happy, and I was wrapped up in the moment."

The 'Abbott Elementary' Gets Her Revenge On Kimmel

While Brunson has stated that she isn't at all upset with Kimmel for his act during the Emmys, that didn't stop her from getting her revenge on the comedian.

Towards the end of "The Man Show" alum's opening monologue, the "Quinta Vs. Everything star walked on stage proudly with her Emmy in hand as the crowd cheered her interrupting Kimmel's speech.

The show host, who seemed confused by her presence, said, "You know, you're a little bit early for your interview. It's after the commercial," to which she replied: "I know, but I have a little favor to ask, actually. So you know how you win an Emmy, you only have 45 seconds to do an acceptance speech, which is not that much time? And then you get less time because someone does a dumb comedy bit that goes on a bit too long?"

Brunson asked Kimmel to forfeit the rest of his monologue time so she could use it to complete her acceptance speech and thank more people. The comedian willingly obliged and went to the back while the "A Black Lady Sketch Show" star proceeded to recite her speech before closing out the monologue.

Amid the entire saga, Brunson has shown nothing but love to Kimmel despite the backlash he received from the internet. As The Blast covered in a press conference at the Emmys, the show writer and actress defended the late-night talk show host.

"I know Jimmy Kimmel, and I don’t know, I feel like the bit didn’t bother me that much. I don’t know what the internet thinks," she said to a reporter.

Nevertheless, Brunson had nothing but praises for Kimmel, discussing his impact on her career. She stated that he gave her the first big late-night spot and was also one of the first people to see "Abbott Elementary."
