Emma Mackey Said She Looked Up To Margot Robbie

Mackey recently encouraged fans to move past comparing her with “Suicide Squad” star Robbie. Since the actress shot to fame in 2019 via her role in the Netflix series “Sex Education,” fans have repeatedly pointed out the resemblance between the two actresses.
The comparisons played a part in Mackey’s casting in the upcoming live-action “Barbie” movie. The two actresses will reportedly star in the film together and play varied versions of Barbie, one of the lead characters.
As per Insider, while talking to Total Film recently, Mackey shed light on how she felt about being compared to Robbie on numerous occasions. According to the actress, she did not mind the comparison and, in fact, looked up to her.
Emma Mackey Said Fans Should Move Past Comparisons
Mackey described the comparison comments as “funny” and commended Robbie for handling it with “grace and humor.” She said, “It’s just funny, and I think Margot has had the grace and humor to be able to play on that and allow me to be in the same film as her – bless her. It’s just a joke in real life. I’m like, ‘We don’t look anything like each other.'”

The “Death on the Nile” actress added, “I don’t mind it. It’s Margot Robbie. Are you kidding me? She’s the best. I look up to her so much. I don’t mind the comparisons. But it would be nice to move past that.”
Mackey spoke about the comments comparing the two actresses as far back as 2020 and at the time revealed that she would prefer it if people paid more attention to the work the actresses were doing rather than fixate on their resemblance.
Emma Mackey Has Spoken On The Comparisons Before
During her 2020 interview with The Independent, the magazine pointed out her resemblance to Robbie, claiming that the duo had the same “high cheekbones, expressive brows, and square jaw.” The 26-year-old, in response, revealed that she didn’t particularly see the resemblance between the both of them.

“I genuinely just don’t see it at all. But it’s fine. I wish people would stop comparing. Like, it’s lovely to be compared to Margot, but mostly I’d rather people focus on the jobs that we’re both doing rather than what we look like,” Mackey said.
“Hollywood churns out people who look the same, and we love to put people in boxes,” she continued. “It’s just a thing that we do as a species; we categorize people, we always have.”
Margot Robbie Said She Was Mistaken For Emma Mackey
Robbie joined Ali Plumb on BBC radio and revealed that she had been mistaken for Mackey a time or two. The occasion the 32-year-old recalled happened in Los Angeles at The Apple Pan diner. The actress revealed that someone commended her for her performance in Mackey’s role, “Sex Education,” and she had to clarify that she wasn’t part of the cast.

Robbie said, “Someone came up to me; I was eating a burger, And they were like, ‘I loved you in “Sex Education,” that show is so cool, we just started watching it.’ And I was like, ‘I’m so sorry, it’s not me.'”
In a later interview with Greg James on BBC Radio 1, Mackey responded to Robbie’s comment, revealing that at this point, it was a running joke. “I just love the ‘Oh, sorry, it’s not me’ — so sweet. It just made me laugh,” the actress said. “It is like a running joke now, like have Margot Robbie and Emma Mackey been seen in the same room? But all the people who know me well don’t see it at all. But I’ll take it!”
