Prince Harry is mourning the death of his beloved grandmother and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen passed away on Thursday, September 8, at Balmoral at 96 years old after 70 years of successful reign as the monarch of the British Empire.
In the days following her demise, world leaders, celebrities, and many more have mourned her loss and remembered her legacy. However, it is the tributes from members of the Royal Family that have carried much weight as they remember her not only as their Queen but as a beloved mother and grandmother.
Prince Harry Pays Heartfelt Tribute To Queen Elizabeth II
Three days after the monarch's passing, her grandson Prince Harry broke his silence with a heartfelt tribute posted on Archewell's website. The Duke of Sussex shared a lovely black-and-white photo of him and Her Majesty staring at each other and enjoying a laugh.
"In celebrating the life of my grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen—and in mourning her loss—we are all reminded of the guiding compass she was to so many in her commitment to service and duty," Harry began his statement. He continued, stating that Queen Elizabeth II was "globally admired and respected."
Harry praised the Queen's "unwavering grace and dignity," which was evident throughout her life and even now in her passing. The fourth grandson of the beloved monarch then urged fans of the Royal family to "echo the words she spoke after the passing of her husband, Prince Philip, words which can bring comfort to all of us now: “Life, of course, consists of final partings as well as first meetings."
The Duke of Sussex then went personal with this tribute, recalling heart-melting first meetings with his late grandmother. He wrote, "Granny, while this final parting brings us great sadness, I am forever grateful for all of our first meetings—from my earliest childhood memories with you, to meeting you for the first time as my Commander-in-Chief, to the first moment you met my darling wife and hugged your beloved great-grandchildren."
Harry noted that he "cherished" those special intimate moments with the Queen as well as well as others in between. He continued, "You are already sorely missed, not just by us, but by the world over."
The 37-year-old didn't fail to acknowledge his father, formerly known as Prince Charles, who has now become the King of England. He wrote, "And as it comes to first meetings, we now honour my father in his new role as King Charles III."
Harry concluded the tear-jerking tribute, writing, "Thank you for your commitment to service. Thank you for your sound advice. Thank you for your infectious smile. We, too, smile, knowing that you and grandpa are reunited now and both together in peace."
Prince Harry & Meghan Reconnect With Prince William & Kate
On Thursday morning, after news of Queen Elizabeth's shaky health made headlines, Prince Harry, who was in Europe with his wife Meghan Markle, made his way to Scotland to join his grandmother in her final hours. However, he wasn't able to get to her bedside before she passed.
His older brother Prince William also made his way to Balmoral Concert to be with the Queen but couldn't make it. In the aftermath of Her Majesty's demise, Royal fans globally witnessed a surprise reunion of Prince Harry, Meghan, Prince William, and Kate Middleton — something that hasn't happened in over two years since the Sussexes stepped away from being senior working members of the Royal family.
The foursome all donned black outfits of mourning as they walked the streets of Windsor Castle for about 40 minutes, greeting well-wishers and reading tributes laid by the public. The foursome interacted and put up a united front in honor of the late matriarch.
A Royal source said to People Magazine of the surprise reunion, "It's such an extraordinary historical moment and also a deeply personal one for the family that you'd hope and think that all members of the family would unite and support [the King] especially. And perhaps some of those wounds can be healed in the process."
