Tattoo artist Mike DeVries opened up to fans about the tattoo cover-up he did for Sylvester Stallone. Amidst his marriage drama, the critically acclaimed actor surprised fans by removing the tattoo of his wife Jennifer Flavin from his shoulder.
This news comes after Flavin filed for divorce from Stallone after 25 years of marriage. However, DeVries revealed to People Magazine that Stallone already had plans to alter the ink a while before Flavin’s move to end things.
He also recalled inking Flavin’s face on the “Lords of Flatbush” star in 2007. Following their plans to split, the actor has changed the ink to a tribute to Butkus, his now-late dog. This disappointed fans who preferred his idea of changing it to "Wonder Woman."

Sylvester Stallone Wanted Tattoo Of Wife To Look Like 'Wonder Woman'
DeVries insisted to Peoplethat Stallone wanted to change the body art long before last month when Flavin filed for the divorce. He said, “I already knew he wanted to do something, because last year he emailed me, and called me.”
DeVries also revealed that Stallone asked if he could make it look like Wonder Woman. He said, “We discussed talking about making Jennifer Flavin into [Wonder Woman].” However, the “Escape Plan” actor changed his mind for a few reasons. Firstly, Wonder Woman’s yellow tiara wouldn’t have “worked” over Flavin’s dark hair in the tattoo.
DeVries explained that he told Stallone that “all of her hair would just shine through.” Eventually, the actor decided to do a cover-up instead. Since then, DeVries has inked Stallone several other times. He also recalled loving every session with the actor as he was “one of those guys who just knew what he wanted.”
Getting The Original Jennifer Flavin Tattoo Done
DeVries spoke to People about his experience inking the original Flavin tattoo on Stallone. He said, “He wanted the colors brighter. ‘Brighter, brighter. We got to get these colors brighter.’” He also recalled agreeing on a “specific image” with Stallone and getting to work, saying, “I got the hair done. I’m starting to work on the face now. And I’m starting to work up. I get the chin, and I’m working on the lips, and I get the lips pretty much done.”
At this point, Stallone got very specific about what he wanted. “He is like, ‘Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, hold on a second. [I] want you to do the lips like this.’” The actor then opened some magazine covers and told him to “‘Make it like this.’” After some touches, Stallone was satisfied.
Recalling the finished art, DeVries said that it “looked good.” The celebrity tattoo artist noted how much he respected Stallone as a client. The 76-year-old is one of several stars he has worked with in the past. His clients include Travis Barker, Donnie Wahlberg, and Chris Daughtry.
Following the cover-up, he told Stallone to reach out to him if he needed “the dog fixed up or any more” tats. Though he revealed that he hadn’t yet replied, fans believed he was caught up with the recent divorce filing from his longtime wife.
Sylvester Stallone Cleared Rumors On The Split
Stallone previously explained to TMZ that he had plans to change the Flavin tattoo to something else. However, his ideas flopped, and he decided to cover it up with the photo of Butkus. This tribute comes after Stallon’s decision to get a new dog, Dwight.
During the interview, he also addressed some rumors about the divorce filing. He explained that he and Flavin were ending things on good terms. Before his statement, some fans believed Flavin’s filing was triggered by Stallone’s decision to get a Rottweiler.
“We did not end the relationship on such a trivial argument,” he said. “We just went in different directions.” He also revealed that he respected her and would always love her. “I will always love her. She’s an amazing woman. She’s the nicest human being I’ve ever met.” Fans were sad to see Flavin’s statement on their plans to split after such a long time together.
Jennifer Flavin’s Statement On The Divorce
Flavin revealed the divorce plans to fans in a statement to People. It read: “I’m sad to announce that after 25 years of marriage I have filed for divorce from my husband Sylvester Stallone. While we will no longer be married, I will always cherish the more than 30-year relationship that we shared, and I know we are both committed to our beautiful daughters.”
She also “asked for privacy” from fans and the public as they “amicably move forward.” The “Rocky” actor also subsequently confirmed their split in a statement. He said, “I love my family. We are amicably and privately addressing these personal issues.”
Since their divorce announcement, Stallone has kept up his usual social media presence. On his daughter Sophia's birthday, the movie star shared photos of her with him and his now estranged wife, Flavin. The former model also posted a birthday tribute to their daughter but did not include any pictures featuring Stallone.
