Ewan McGregor Fires Back at Mark Ruffalo's 'Star Wars' Comments

Actor Ewan McGregor has been known for playing the character of Obi-Wan Kenobi since "The Phantom Menace" kicked off the Star Wars prequel trilogy in 1991.

Meanwhile, actor Mark Ruffalo is best known for playing Bruce Banner/The Incredible Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the blockbuster "Avengers" films.

After Mark recently suggested that Marvel might be better than Star Wars due to its variety, Ewan is firing back at the MCU and claims that - at least right now - he has no desire to be part of the franchise.

As Comicbook, reported, the "Halston" actor spoke during a panel at Fan Expo Boston over the weekend. When he was on stage, Ewan was asked about trading Star Wars for the MCU. However, Ewan made it pretty clear that he's "not looking for that."

"I don't know. I don't know that I want to do that. Because I love doing all different kinds of work," Ewan said. "It's true. I love to direct. I'd like to be in the theater again. I definitely want to do this again, you know, I'm in this Star Wars world. I feel like I don't need another... I'm not looking for that anyway."

However, he quickly clarified, "I feel like I shouldn't say I wouldn't do it because in two years time you'll be like, 'You said you were never going to do this!' But I'm not looking for it particularly."

Even though a second season of the Disney+ live-action series has yet to be confirmed, the "Doctor Sleep" star would be more than happy to reprise the role that made him a household name.

"That's the beautiful thing about how passionate Disney, Lucasfilm, all of us are, who are involved with it is from the beginning is we try really hard not to let anything of the bad just to protect your experience of seeing it for the first time," Ewan said during the panel in Boston over the weekend.

"I think it's really cool that Disney and Lucasfilm care so much for the fan experience," he added. "They really want you to have a 100% experience the first time you see it, and if you've read that, and that leaked, and this came out, it's just a bit of a shame isn't it? It's like looking at your Christmas presents before Christmas Day."

Although Star Wars fans may be disappointed that "Obi-Wan Kenobi" may have wrapped entirely, fans can look forward to the "Rogue One" prequel series, "Andor," starting next month. Season 3 of "The Mandalorian" follows in February 2023 and "Ahsoka" will be released later next year.

In a recent interview with Metro, to promote the new Marvel Disney+ series "She-Hulk," in which he also stars, Mark Ruffalo was asked if there is "too much Marvel content" already out there.

However, Mark replied that it's "not something I worry about," adding, "I understand that these things run their course and then something else comes along. But the thing Marvel has done well is that, inside the MCU, just as they do with comic books, they let a director or an actor sort of recreate each piece to their own style, their likeness."

He then fired off a controversial comment when he decided to bring a galaxy far, far away in the conversation.

"Marvel generally lets them bring that to the material," he added. "If you watch a Star Wars, you’re pretty much going to get the same version of Star Wars each time."

"It might have a little bit of humour. It might have a little bit of different animation," Mark clarified. "But you’re always, really, in that same kind of world. But with Marvel you can have a whole different feeling even within the Marvel Universe."

It seems that the two may just have to agree or disagree on which franchise is better, but, according to the data, "Obi-Wan Kenobi" drew in more audience members than "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier" and "Moon Knight," which starred Star Wars sequel trilogy star Oscar Isaac.
