Nicki Minaj, LL Cool J & Jack Harlow Set To Emcee 2022 VMAs

This year's VMAs has three times the Hip-hop charm!

The prestigious award ceremony, hosted by the entertainment giant MTV, will continue its annual tradition of honoring the best music videos of the year. For 2022's event, the show will take place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, under the co-leadership of rap stars LL Cool J, Nicki Minaj, and Jack Harlow.

On August 28, three of the world's biggest rappers will take the VMA stage in all their hip-hop glory to anchor and present the famous silver Moonman trophies to lucky entertainers. As shared by PEOPLE, MTV announced the exciting news on Thursday, August 18, marking one of the most iconic co-hosts lineups in the VMAs history.

Although having multiple hosts was nothing new in the award ceremony, this mashup of emcees could not be compared to the past. Unlike previous events, each presenter would steal the spotlight in more ways than one. Minaj, the Queen of Rap, stood out on the list as she shall dominate the center stage three times that night as a host, performer, and award recipient.

This year's ceremony contained several accolades for the "Anaconda" artist, who scored not only the emceeing gig but also her first VMAs performance since 2018. Thanks to her collaboration with Lil Baby, "Do We Have A Problem?" the Hip-hop star joined the list of potential award winners by earning a nomination in the best hip-hop video category.

While it remains unclear if the five-time VMAs winner would snag this trophy, the Trinidadian-born rapper has been announced as 2022's recipient of the iconic Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. That prestigious award linked the "Chun Swae" musician to her soon-to-be co-host LL Cool J, who received the Video Vanguard Award in 1997.

Aside from being a recipient of this honor, the 54-year-old rapper-turned-actor has three VMAs nominations, achieving the silver Moonman trophy in 1991 for the best rap video category. This year marked the first time the "NCIS: Los Angeles" star has attended the award ceremony since his time as a presenter in 2000.

Meanwhile, Harlow would make his debut as a solo performer at the upcoming VMAs. The youngest emcee trio also tied with Lil Nas X and Kendrick Lamar for most award nominations. Other artists set to dominate the stage include popular acts like Panic! At The Disco, Marshmello x Khalid, Måneskin, Anitta, J Balvin, Lizzo, and K-Pop sensation BLACKPINK.

According to the news outlet, Lizzo planned on singing "2 Be Loved," a track from her latest album called Special. On the other hand, the Italian band Måneskin will be performing for the first time in 2022. The group, best known for winning Eurovision in 2021, are scheduled to sing a rendition of their hit alternative track "SUPERMODEL." While the Brazilian songstress Anitta would perform her chart-topping song "Envolver."

As for BLACKPINK, one of South Korea's most prominent girl groups, the band will be gracing the stage for the first time at this year's event. The four-woman team consisting of members Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa, became the first K-pop girl group to win a Moonman trophy for "How You Like That" in 2020.

Lisa also broke records as the first soloist to be nominated in the Best K-pop category, earning a nod at this year's event with her hit debut song "LALISA."

Earlier this month, The Blast reported that Minaj celebrated winning the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award with a special announcement on social media. The "Moment 4 Life" singer's excitement was understandable as the prestigious award acknowledged her outstanding contributions to the music video industry and pop culture.

Taking to Instagram, the Trinidadian rapper shared a promotional video about the event, which featured snippets from Minaj's music videos flashing across the screen. In the accompanying caption, the "Super Bass" artist implored fans to tune in for the show, dropping hints about having something special in store for them.

The BET Award winner noted that apart from watching her receive the Video Vanguard Award, no one should miss her performance as it would be worth the wait.
