Ellen DeGeneres Reveals Portia de Rossi's Wedding Line In 14th Anniversary Tribute

With over a decade of staying blissfully married, Ellen DeGeneres is commemorating her wedding anniversary with her wife of 14 years, Portia de Rossi.

The couple has been romantically linked since 2004 and went on to tie the knot in August 2008 at their home in Beverly Hills, California. Fourteen years of marriage is a significant milestone for the lovers, and DeGeneres could not help but mark it with love on Instagram.

DeGeneres made a mashup video of herself with De Rossi playing around on a lawn, followed by past interviews, including one where they were quizzed on what candy best described the nature of their relationship. More scenarios in the clip showed how compatible the couple was and the extent of endless affection they felt for each other.

A part also revealed De Rossi gifting DeGeneres a wildlife foundation she created in her name, considering how much work the notable comedian had done on elephants. DeGeneres said she loved it and called it the best present. She then recalled her partner's wedding line quoting, "It's good to be loved. It's profound to be understood." She further said:

"And [De Rossi] understands me, so that's the best gift anybody could have given me, so I love you." 

The 64-year-old penned the same wedding line in the post's caption, tagging her beloved spouse and adding, "Happy 14! [red heart emoji]." 

In light of the twosome's wedding anniversary, the timeline of their love story starts when they met on December 1, 2004, at Los Angeles' Shrine Auditorium per E!. The life-altering meeting positively influenced their lives as they remained in love for years, with De Rossi being able to embrace her true self.

The 49-year-old actress seems not to have been avoiding love affairs with women, reportedly not since her separation in 1999 from Mel Metcalfe.  While she may have married Metcalfe for "the green card," she could not bring herself to exploit their "great, caring relationship."

Later, she dated writer and filmmaker Francesca Gregorini, and when she met DeGeneres, she was still in that relationship. De Rossi was not so open about being gay back in the day as she had a "very, very long and difficult struggle" with her sexuality. She once said:

"The people who need to know I'm gay know, and I'm somehow living by example by continuing on with my career and having a full, rich life."

The "Ally McBeal" actress added at the time that she was "incidentally gay," noting that it was not a big political platform, and she justified it in multiple ways. Meanwhile, shortly after meeting DeGeneres at the L.A. Auditorium, they moved in together and parented three rescue cats.

From there, their love life got stronger than ever, with them growing together, supporting each other, and being dedicated moms to their various rescue pets. 

Earlier in May, The Blast reported De Rossi singing praises for her partner amid the conclusion of her long-running show, which ended with its final episode on May 26, 2022. The Australian-American actress tributed the award-winning comedian with an adorable Instagram post showing several throwback photos of her with a couple of monochrome images.

She captioned the post with a shout-out to her "utterly beautiful, supremely talented, and insanely accomplished" wife," whom she felt blessed to have. De Rossi further gushed, "I married an icon. I married my idol. I'm so proud of you for making this platform one that not only entertains but inspires and uplifts people."

She also declared that her spouse's program would always be remembered for "elevating the world's consciousness," after which she expressed her forever love. Before the beautiful tribute came about, DeGeneres got candid about the conclusion of her show. She admitted to being more sentimental in the past months than she was in the final weeks.

In addition, she said she knew beforehand that that would be her final season, so planning those episodes was a significant feat for her. The "Finding Nemo" star wanted those few weeks to be without tears but with joy and "pure fun," like an escape from the harsh reality of the saddening global events.
