Jay Cutler Breaks Silence On Kristin Cavallari's Comments About 'Toxic' Marriage

Ex-NFL player Jay Cutler has revealed he has no plans to engage in a media war of words with his ex-wife Kristin Cavallari.

The "National Lampoon's Van Wilder: Freshman Year" actress has given several interviews after the pair's divorce was officially finalized a few months ago, where she discussed her marriage to the former NFL player.

In those instances, the fashion entrepreneur called her marriage toxic, adding that she was unhappy during the length of her time with Cutler. In response, Cutler recently said that he has "steered clear" of the controversy his ex-wife is causing, adding she is free to express her reservations.

On a recent episode of Sofia Franklin's podcast "Sofia with an F," the former NFL quarterback shared details about his life before, during, and after the NFL and gave his perspective on his divorce from Cavallari.

Instead of shutting down rumors that have been making the rounds due to his ex-wife's recent chatter in the media about their former marriage, Cutler took the high road saying he has chosen to avoid focusing on her comments.

"I've kind of steered clear of all of that," the former NFL quarterback told the podcast host (via Page Six.)

The Indiana-born reality star continued by saying he was not opposed to Cavallari expressing herself and revealed he would not engage in a media spat with her because they still had a bond through their children.

"I also don't understand," he added, referring to his ex-wife's antics. "It's two and a half years. Why are we having these conversations?"

Cutler and Cavallari started dating in September 2010 and got engaged in April 2011. In July 2011, they called off their engagement, but in November of that same year, they announced their reconciliation. On June 7, 2013, the couple was married in Nashville, Tennessee, and later bore three kids, Camden, 9, Jaxon, 8, and Saylor, 6.

The pair announced their impending divorce in April 2020, with Cavallari claiming that their irreconcilable differences were to blame. Per New York Post, the couple's inability to settle a few money-related concerns, such as Cavallari's desire to purchase another home, delayed the divorce's finalization.

The couple's divorce got formally announced in June 2022. The publication reported at the time that the Former NFL quarterback went into celebration after the divorce settlement came through as he tagged the resolution "a happy ending,"

While Cutler has mostly steered clear of rehashing details of his marriage in interviews, "The Hills" alum has been liberal with her words, seemingly piling the blame for the union's failure on the former Miami Dolphins star.

"Basically I called off the engagement [for] the same reason I got a divorce, and so I guess if there's any takeaway from that is you can't ignore red flags," Cavallari said in an episode of the "Call Your Daddy" podcast earlier this month (via Page Six.) "People don't change, and you've got to trust your gut."

Along with other information, Cavallari admitted on the podcast that it took her "a few years to finally pull the trigger" on her divorce and that she found the decision to do so "really scary." She also stated that it was an "unhappy relationship" and did not want her kids to see such relationships as ideal.

For now, there are no details that either Cavallari or Cutler is in a serious relationship. However, a few months ago, the reality star revealed she is now "ready for a relationship."

She shared the details during an Instagram Q&A, revealing that she only dated on and off after the divorce because she needed the time to "work through some heavy stuff."

"I dated a little here and there but no one serious. I am finally in a place where I'm ready for a relationship," she said, per Page Six.

The reality star also responded positively to inquiries about her someday walking down the aisle again. "I still very much believe in marriage, and I've had tremendous growth over the past two years, so I will be entering a new relationship as a different person, which really excites me," she stated at the time.
