‘Basketball Wives’ star Gloria Govan is in legal hot water after divorce lawyers sued her over unpaid legal fees for the case against Matt Barnes.
According to new legal documents, obtained by The Blast, law firm Brot, Gross & Fishbein filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles County Superior Court claiming they are owed over a hundred thousand in legal fees for the divorce case with former NBA star Matt Barnes.
As you know, Gloria was married to Barnes and the couple split back in 2014. Since that point, the duo went through a nasty custody battle over their identical twin sons. Of course, the battle costs a pretty penny in legal fees, and Govan had some of the best lawyers in the country.
Gloria Govan Allegedly Owes Almost $200,000 In Unpaid Attorney Fees
In the filing, Govan’s attorneys claim they were hired in September of 2016 to provide legal services for the high-profile divorce. In the end, they claim a total sum of $187,452.84 of their fees remains unpaid. “No payment has been made although demand, therefore, has been made. There is now due, owing, and unpaid the sum of $187,452.84 as of April 30, 2022, with interest at the rate of ten percent (10%),” the document reads.
The ‘Basketball Wives’ stars’ lawyers attached the original retainer letter to their lawsuit, which spells out they will be representing her in the divorce case, along with a domestic violence restraining order case.
We broke the story, Gloria accused Barnes of backhanding her during their marriage and allegedly assaulting her in front of their children. In documents, filed by her lawyer — Mark Gross — Govan accused Barnes of taking her 9-carat engagement ring and wedding band and selling them to buy himself and their kids diamond necklaces. At the time, she claims Barnes was a danger to their children and slapped her while driving with the kids in the car.
Matt Barnes & Gloria Govan Are Reportedly On ‘Great Terms’
Interestingly, recent reports claim that Matt and Gloria are “on great terms” after the basketball star addressed the drama on a recent podcast. “Whether you can’t stand her or she can’t stand you — none of that s–t should matter once you realize that we still have kids and we’re gonna be here,” he continued. “My s–t played out so public and nasty. I’m really happy to say now that me and my ex are on great terms and I’m cool with my former teammate that she’s married to.”
Adding, “At the end of the day, we’re all raising these kids. She’s my assistant coach on the basketball team. After all the s–t we been through, she is coaching the twins with me, we’re coaching our kids together. I feel like, if we can do it, and our s–t was wild and the world has seen it, to me that should always be a goal.”
It should be noted, that Gloria is newly married to NBA legend Derek Fisher. The couple started dating soon after the split with Barnes, and were set up by the reality star’s brother. “Derek asked my brother permission to have my number the next morning and we began to text each other for months, she said. Adding, “Once Derek returned back to L.A., we ended up hanging out over the summer. The rest is history.”
At this point, Gloria hasn’t responded to the lawsuit. The case is ongoing.
