It appears that the two teenage sons of Britney Spears and Kevin Federline want some distance from their mom.

The "Gimme More" singer married her second husband, K-Fed, in 2004 but the couple finalized their divorce in 2007. The marriage produced two now-teenage boys: Sean Preston and Jayden James.

In a new tell-all interview with the Daily Mail, Kevin revealed that his sons haven't seen their mom "in a few months."

During the interview, Kevin revealed that "The boys have decided they are not seeing her right now," adding, "It's been a few months since they've seen her. They made the decision not to go to her wedding."

"This whole thing has been hard to watch, harder to live through, harder to watch my boys go through than anything else," he continued. "It's been tough. It's the most challenging thing I've ever had to do in my life."

K-Fed indicated that the boys are having a hard time dealing with Britney's social media activity, which has included erratic posts and a series of nude photos.

"I try to explain to them, 'Look, maybe that's just another way she tries to express herself,'" Kevin explained. "But that doesn't take away from the fact of what it does to them. It's tough." He added, "I can't imagine how it feels to be a teenager having to go to high school."

Although Britney's 13-year conservatorship ended last November, K-Fed said that his sons have become uncomfortable visiting Britney's house "in recent years." However, he declined to go into detail about what exactly they experienced. All he would say was, "There were a lot of things going on that I didn't feel comfortable with."

Kevin Federline says that the boys made their own decision not to see Britney based on her social media activity and her public social media attacks on him and other members of her family, especially her parents.

"They tried to give her the benefit of the doubt but at the same time, I can tell that sometimes, it hurts to be in that position," he told the Daily Mail. "So, I made sure all my kids can come to me at any moment and discuss anything."

"They're teenagers right now. You know, we talk about sex, we talk about drugs, we talk about all the things that teenagers go through," he continued. "I want my kids to make all the mistakes they possibly can in my house, because [that way], I can protect them."

In June, Britney married Iranian actor Sam Asghari, whom she had been dating since 2016. Although the wedding was attended by many A-list celebrities, including Madonna, Paris Hilton, and Selena Gomez, her two sons decided not to attend.

"[The boys] were happy for her, but they decided that, as they're not seeing her right now, they made the decision not to go to her wedding," Kevin said.

When Britney and Kevin's marriage came to an end, Kevin recalled being "blindsided" when Britney filed for divorce, as he had been on a promotional tour in Canada at the time. He said that he called his lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, and told him "all I care about is getting 50 percent custody."

"Nothing else mattered. Nothing," Kevin recalled. "I'm not the person that will take money over family."

The two were awarded joint custody until Britney's public meltdown, which resulted in her shaving her head. In January 2008, Kevin Federline was awarded sole legal and physical custody. In February 2008, Britney was placed under legal conservatorship.

In what might be the most controversial part of his interview, Kevin Federline claimed that Britney's father, Jamie Spears, actually "saved her life" through the conservatorship. Although he questions why it lasted as long as it did, Kevin said, "I saw this man that really cared, and really cares about his family and wanting everything to be OK," adding, "When Jamie took over, things got into order. He saved her life."

However, he did say that her conservatorship was difficult to explain to her teenage sons. "They've had a lot of questions about it," he explained. "I don't know that I can answer all of them for them but I just tried to explain to them that your mom needed help, you know, and the people were in play to try to make that happen, to make it better."

Although Kevin Federline took out a restraining order against Jamie after there was an allegation that he got into a physical altercation with one of the boys, Kevin said he "absolutely" wants Britney's father to play a role in his son's lives.

"I would absolutely welcome Jamie Spears back in the boys' lives," Kevin said. "Especially if that's what the boys wanted. I don't have any hard feelings towards Jamie Spears. People make mistakes. I feel bad for him. I feel like he's been put through the wringer."

He said that invitation also extends to Britney's mother, Lynne, who his sons know as "memaw," Britney's brother Bryan, and Britney's sister, Jamie Lynn.

"Family is supposed to stick together, and just because they're not my immediate family, you know, they're my sons', my kids' immediate family," Kevin said. "They love their memaw. My priority has always been: it is about what is good for the boys."
