Ezra Miller's 'The Flash' Still On Course For Release Despite Actor's Disturbing Incidents

Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav has hailed the upcoming superhero thriller "The Flash."

The speedster film has gotten bad publicity lately, primarily because of the lead character's public antics over the past months. Ezra Miller, who portrays the part, has had several run-ins with the law that cost them public support and jeopardized the reputation of the upcoming movie.

While several people have demanded that "The Flash" be canceled or that Miller be replaced, Zaslav recently praised the effort put out to make its production a success, indirectly suggesting that there will be no changes anytime soon as the projected release date approaches.

On Thursday, Warner Bros. held a meeting to evaluate their Q2 earnings and discuss their upcoming films. As per reports obtained by Variety, C.E.O Zaslav was full of good words about the speedster film, hinting that Miller's recent scruples with the law have not caused the media behemoths to postpone the movie's release or cancel the project entirely.

"We have seen The Flash, Black Adam and Shazam 2," Zaslav said via the publication. "We are very excited about them. We've seen them." He continued: "We think they are terrific, and we think we can make them even better."

From April to October 2021, scenes were filmed at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden and elsewhere in the United Kingdom. The release date was shifted severally due to multiple delays brought on by director changes, the COVID-19 pandemic, and post-production difficulties.

The film is slated to hit theatres on June 23, 2023. Miller will star in the titular role of Barry Allen, following his previous performance as the same character in director Zack Snyder's cut of the "Justice League."

Miller, who is non-binary and is addressed by they/them pronouns, has had a very scandal-filled year, with the first incident happening back in March. They were detained at the time in Hawaii for disorderly conduct and harassment after allegedly getting into a physical argument with several other customers at a karaoke club.

A few weeks later, they were arrested for their role in an incident that resulted in a bystander suffering a half-inch forehead cut. It was alleged that Miller threw the chair, which caused the injuries, which resulted in a second-degree assault charge.

Following an incident in February, the mother of a 12-year-old boy from Greenfield, Massachusetts, was given a temporary order of protection in June, preventing the movie star from getting in touch with the youngster.

Following Miller's public scandals, several DC die-hards pushed for the film to be scrapped despite many of them once praising the actor's performance in "Justice League."

Miller's antics also created more of a nightmarish situation for Warner Bros. They currently battle with the possibility of the movie being negatively received when it debuts next year, in which case the $200 million spent on its creation would likely provide little to no returns.

Although the showrunners have the option of selecting a different actor to take Miller's position, it is doubtful that they would do so. Miller's contract would have to be terminated legally, and the expense of finding a replacement performer and reshooting their scenes would be extremely on the high side.

Zaslav's most recent statement suggests that the film's release will go according to schedule. However, it is reasonable to assume that Miller won't be involved in any other DC productions following "The Flash." The actor's behavior not only appears to have hindered their professional advancement, but its fallout has also destroyed whatever support they may have received from Warner Bros.

"The Flash" might not be the box office hit it was initially slated to be. Still, appearances from Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck, who both previously portrayed Batman, Gotham's most notorious vigilante, will help increase the film's traction.

Other actors expected to star in the film include Ron Livingston as Henry Allen, Barry's father, Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, Barry's love interest, and Maribel Verdú portraying Nora Allen, Barry's mother, Michael Shannon, Antje Traue, and Sasha Calle.
