Lizzo has been a huge influence in the body positivity movement. She has proudly flaunted her body and shown how people can overcome body dysmorphia. Lizzo has taken the world by storm winning Time Magazine’s Entertainer of the Year title in 2019 and is nominated for 8 Grammy Awards including Best New Artist, Best Song of the Year and Best Album of the Year. Despite her success, many continue to body shame the “Good as Hell” singer including Jillian Michaels.
“Why are we celebrating her body? Why does it matter? Why aren’t we celebrating her music? ‘Cause it isn’t gonna be awesome if she gets diabetes,” the former ‘Biggest Loser’ trainer said on Buzzfeed’s ‘AM to PM.’
“I love her music. My kid loves her music. But there’s never a moment where I’m like, ‘And I’m so glad that she’s overweight,'” Michaels continued.
“I have done nothing wrong. I forgive myself for thinking I was wrong in the first place. I deserve to be happy,” Lizzo wrote on Instagram that day.
According to [PopCulture,] (https://popculture.com/music/2020/01/22/lizzo-so-much-more-than-her-body-amid-jillian-michaels-controversy/) Lizzo has something to say to those body-shaming her.
“I’m so much more than that,” Lizzo said of her body to [Rolling Stone.] (https://www.instagram.com/p/B7oPOFvhVtw/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link) “Because I actually present that [and] I have a whole career; it’s not a trend.”
“I’ve come to terms with body dysmorphia and evolved,” Lizzo revealed to the outlet. “The body-positive movement is doing the same thing. We’re growing together, and it’s growing pains, but I’m just glad that I’m attached to something so organic and alive.”
“As a black woman, I make music for people, from an experience that is from a black woman… I’m making music that hopefully makes other people feel good and helps me discover self-love,” she added. “That message I want to go directly to black women, big black women, black trans women. Period.”
“We eventually get used to everything… So, people, just gon’ have to get used to my a—,” Lizzo added playfully. Lizzo has no time for haters with all her success.
Lizzo’s body has been at the center of several controversies. The biggest being the outfit she wore to a Lakers game. Her outfit was business in the front party in the back revealing her bottom in a thong. She gave the Lakers fans in attendance a good view when she stood up to twerk along to her song “Good as Hell.” While many were offended and petitioned for Lizzo to be banned for future Lakers game, Lizzo is unphased and still going strong.
