The rapper, who has been on a hiatus from performing due to tonsil surgery, underwent a drastic style change when she shaved her head in front of fans during an Instagram Live session.

Amid the backlash, the "Say So" rapper is opening up about why she chose such a dramatic transformation and how she feels about getting rid of her hair.

On Thursday, Doja surprised her 24.1 million fans by going Live and shaving her hair while chatting with them. The singer looked gorgeous in a multi-colored knitted sweater and a dramatic glammed-up face consisting of blue eye shadow and full lashes.

The award-winning entertainer went all out with her accessories, stacking several silver necklaces and adorning her fingers with blue rings. In the session, which was watched by more than 20,000 fans, Doja grabbed a razor to shave not only her hair but her eyebrows.

As you might know, in Hollywood, shaved hair is often related to mid-life crises or mental health issues. Hence, it didn't take long for Doja to become a topic of discussion online, with many comparing the 26-year-old's antics to Britney Spears' infamous head shave in February 2007.

Others suggested Doja was crumbling under the immense pressure of the entertainment industry — a topic that made headlines in March when she declared she wanted to quit music, lamenting "Everything Is Dead To Me, Music Is Dead."

Some fans, however, believed that the Californian native was just being expressive and doing what she felt like.

Fellow rapper Joyner Lucas came to her defense, writing, "Shorty a[sic] icon. She different. She’s her. She’s whatever she wanna be. She’s a super star. She can do what she want and still make it sexy. Doja cat is 1 of 1. She goes against the grain. That’s what makes her dope. I don’t think it’s mental health or her having a breakdown. I just think she doin whatever the fuck she wanna do Becuz she can. I love it. Keep killin shit doja. 🙏🏽🔥🔥🔥 you a star 🌟 🙌🏽🙌🏽."

The 'Woman' Singer Absolutely Loves Her Bald Head

Following the online uproar, Doja initiated another Instagram Live session to explain her decision to shave her head. Getting candid with fans, she said, "I feel like I was never supposed to have hair anyway. I, like, don't like having hair."

The Grammy Award winner continued, "I never liked having hair. I cannot tell you one time, since the beginning of my life, that I've ever been like, 'This is cool. I just do not like to have hair. I remember feeling so f**king exhausted with like working out."

The hitmaker recalled going to exercise with her trainer while wearing wigs and feeling "tacky" because of the trapped moisture. She noted that the wigs often slipped off her head while she was performing strenuous routines, resulting in her being distracted.

"I couldn't focus because I was more concerned about how I looked. Or how my hair was doing, and how to keep it adhered to my scalp," Doja lamented.

The "Kiss Me More" songstress complained about how she would go as far as to wear beanies, increasing the burden on her hair. "I just can't believe that it took me this long to be like, 'Shave your f**king head...' It's just a f**king nightmare!"
