Malia Obama's New Beau Is 9-Years-Older, Meet The Ethiopian Producer

Malia Obama is stepping up the relationship ladder with her new beau, Dawit Eklund.

New details of the former first daughter’s love affair came tumbling out after she was seen out and about with Dawit twice.

The last time anyone had some information about Obama’s dating situation, she was with her Harvard University boyfriend, Rory Farquharson.

It appears Obama has found love in the unexpected arms of an Ethiopian music producer who is nine years her senior, per The Daily Mail. In photos obtained by the outlet, Obama and Eklund kept things casual in their everyday outfits.

While the 24-year-old opted for a white crop top and baggy green bottoms, her 33-year-old man donned a nude-colored T-shirt and green shorts with a picture of singer Bob Marley on the left leg.

Although the pair were not caught locking lips, they did hug each other in the snaps, with Eklund’s hand resting on his woman’s waist — a move she rewarded by caressing the back of his neck.

The duo looked comfortable with each other as they visited the Los Angeles County Museum of Art on Thursday, making it their third public appearance in nine days.

Their back-to-back sightings led curious minds to find out details of Dawit. As it turned out, the 33-year-old is the son of 72-year-old retired State Department officer Jon Eklund.

He worked at several United States embassies in Africa with his 66-year-old Ethiopian wife, Yeshi. Dawit is one of four children from Jon and Yeshi.

He is also the co-founder of the record label 1432 R, which is based in Washington D.C and specializes in Ethiopian music.

A 2016 article about the brand stated that their music "seamlessly brings together house music grooves, the stutter of U.K. garage, an uneasy electronic ambiance, and – perhaps most notably – Ethiopian folk music."

A different write-up referred to him as "one of Washington's most exciting dance music producers."

It further added that it was not because he was "splicing styles" on a global scale but because he had spent most of his young life learning "how to communicate with different kinds of people."

Dawit got his education at the International Community School, Addis Ababa, before proceeding to study International Development in Africa at the prestigious George Washington University.

Since his dad’s retirement, his parents have settled in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, even though they also have a house in Chantilly, Virginia.

As for Obama, who relocated to Los Angeles in 2021 after graduating from Harvard, she is currently working as a screenwriter on actor Donald Glover's upcoming Amazon show.

In June, The Blast noted that Obama could effortlessly rock a bikini. Along with 2019 swimwear pictures, the publication stated that the then 20-year-old looked terrific in the all-white string bikini she wore to a Miami beach. 

The bikini’s top boasted triangle-cut cups and thin straps that clung over her shoulders and highlighted her slender arms and taut abs. Its low neckline gave onlookers something to talk about as it displayed her cleavage.

Obama’s lower bottom featured a high-cut design with a curved waistband connected with strings tied in bows high up on her hips.

The dark-haired beauty’s bottoms brought attention to her long legs, which she no doubt got from her leggy parents — Barack and Michelle.

As for her hair, the Visual and Environmental Studies alum styled her black tresses in braids and tied them all into a ponytail. She added a headband for good measure and accessorized it with several stud earrings.

During the beach day, Obama was seen drinking as she lounged on a sunbed and walked on the sand while chatting with her friend. The beauty’s backside was also captured as she posed for a picture with her friends.

On a separate Miami day, Obama rocked a black one-piece for a pool day. The swimwear came with a sleeveless design and high-cut sides that showed off her lean, long legs. 

The screenwriter pulled half of her locks into a ponytail and incorporated some braids that ran to her neck. Obama also dropped her gold accessories for a silver necklace.
