Cardi B is mourning the loss of a loved one whose life was tragically taken in a ghastly Manhattan car crash that killed two innocent pedestrians.
The rapper took to her Instagram Stories to share the devastating news.
Two Pedestrians Killed In Horrific Inwood Car Accident
On Wednesday, a two-car collision in the Inwood area of Manhattan killed two people and injured many.
According to the New York Post, a BMW and a Subaru Forester SUV, both cars heading in opposite directions, collided at an intersection at West 207th Street around 4 am.
The impact of the collision pushed the Subaru to hit two unoccupied vehicles parked on the road before sending the SUV to the sidewalk where he struck two men.
The late victims, both friends, have been identified as 31-year-old Joel Adames and 40-year-old David Fernandez. Five other people sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital.
Adames — to whom Cardi B is related — was taken to the Allen Pavilion Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The food delivery driver was well beloved and had just gotten a haircut from his friend Fernandez before the tragic incident.
Adames was well-loved in his community and was looking forward to celebrating his daughter’s second birthday. On the other hand, Fernandez was known for his love of dancing and earned the nickname “David La Salsa.”
Sherman Avenue, where the devastating incident happened, is notorious for having the most traffic deaths compared to any other street in the neighborhood.
Per ABC7NY, one of the cars involved in the collision sped through a red light at the intersection, resulting in the tragedy. An investigation is still ongoing and no charges have been filed so far.
Cardi B Mourns Late Joel Adames
Following the uneventful incident, Cardi took to her Instagram story to pay tribute to the late Adames.
Alongside a screenshot of ABC7NY’s report of the event, the “Bodak Yellow” star wrote, “stupidness, negligence. I hope the worst to who commute this! Took someone sooo loved, full of life and just all around amazing, leaving people destroy [sic]…RIP JOEL!
In a follow-up update, she shared a heartwarming photo of two men — one of which is believed to be Adames — holding on to their daughters as they celebrated a joint birthday.
“soo hurt for my fams Janco and Marlaaa. Y la familia de Joey 😪.” Our thoughts and prayers go out to the “WAP” rapper.
The “Hustlers” Star Talks Parenting
The unfortunate incident comes weeks after the award-winning entertainer got candid about her motherhood struggles.
Cardi who became a first-time mom in July 2018 with the birth of her daughter Kulture revealed in an interview that she started off as a “terrified mom.”
As The Blast reported, the 29-year-old recalled being at the peak of her rap career when she discovered she was pregnant with Kulture.
She explained, “I didn’t have an album out when I found out I was pregnant. Everybody was so nervous for my career and future.”
To put her team at ease, Cardi promised to get a nanny to help out. “I kept telling them, ‘It’s easy. Trust me, I’m going to have a nanny and she’s going to travel up and down with me. It’s not even going to be a hassle,” she recalled.
However, everything changed when Kulture arrived. The New York native went back on her promise and decided to raise her daughter in the old-fashion way, without the help of a nanny.
Explaining why she made such a drastic decision, the “Love & Hip Hop New York” alum said, “When the baby got here, I couldn’t even think about getting a nanny because I was afraid of anybody being around her besides my family. I’ve never had a nanny for Kulture.”
Cardi, however, didn’t downplay the role of her sister Hennessy who has served as a big help with her little ones. However, the rapper worked hard not to put so much burden on her family member.
She noted, “Your parents have already lived their life and raised their kids. They are older and don’t have the same energy as someone in their 20s. I’m never far from my kids because that’s my responsibility as a mother.”
