Los Angeles Dodgers Legend Vin Scully Passes Away At 94

The heartbeat of Los Angeles Dodgers baseball has passed away. Vin Scully, the Hall of Fame broadcaster for the Dodgers both when they were in Brooklyn and Los Angeles, died Tuesday at age 94, the team has officially announced.

In a statement from Los Angeles Dodgers president and CEO Stan Kasten, he along with the team announced that MLB and the sports world is in mourning as he addressed, "We have lost an icon. Adding to the announcement, it was continued with a touching tribute as the statement read, "Vin Scully was one of the greatest voices in all of sports. He was a giant of a man, not only as a broadcaster, but as a humanitarian. He loved people. He loved life. He loved baseball and the Dodgers. And he loved his family. His voice will always be heard and etched in all of our minds forever. I know he was looking forward to joining the love of his life, Sandi. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this very difficult time. Vin will be truly missed."

Scully was with the Dodgers as their broadcaster for over 65 years, including time while the team was in Brooklyn before relocating to LA in 1958. The longest running sports announcer for any team was well loved by those that weren't even Dodgers fans. His broadcast accolades included 25 World Series, 20 no-hitters and 12 All-Star Games. Baseball wasn't always what he broadcasted as he got his start doing play-by-play for college football games.

Scully, who also is a veteran of the United States Navy has received a plethora of honors over his career that included being named the Top Sportscaster of All-Time by the American SportsCasters Association in 2009. He also joined the baseball Hall of Fame in 1982

The cause of death has yet to be released. His wife, Sandi passed away in 2021 and he leaves behind five children, 21 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Our condolences to all.

The sports world has started to mourn with Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James offering his condolences to the matter by mentioning, "Rest in Power. A City of Angels icon. Another great one who made sports so damn special."
