Michelle Yeoh's 'Everything Everywhere All At Once' Sets New Box Office Record!

The 2022 American comedy-drama movie "Everything Everywhere All At Once" starring Michelle Yeoh recently made a groundbreaking financial milestone as the highest-grossing film in A24's history.

It stars the famous Michelle Yeoh, and as PEOPLE reported, the film has hit $100 million at the worldwide box office, surpassing several other bangers from A24.

Directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, the highly favored movie by A24 is now doing better than the company's "Uncut Gems" and "Hereditary," which both hit significant milestones.

It is worth knowing that 2019's "Uncut Gems" made $50 million nationally while 2018's "Hereditary" made over $80 million globally.

As for the highest-grossing 2022 movie, it was initially released in the U.S. in March and is now available to stream. However, it hit local theaters again over the weekend.

In addition, the production made an extra $650,000 at the box office during its "Friday-to-Sunday" filming in about 1,500 cinemas.

The movie stars Yeoh, who played the role of Evelyn Wang, a Chinese immigrant entangled in a wild adventure, where she gets dropped into other universes on a mission to save her world.

Directors Kwan and Scheinert, jointly known as The Daniels, initially intended for the famed martial arts veteran and actor Jackie Chan to take the lead role, and they told him so.

However, Chan told them he was unavailable, so the part was rewritten for his longtime friend Yeoh who did excellently well in the film.

Speaking with Guardian in an interview published in May, the 59-year-old shared how Chan reacted to the movie's commendations.

She said, "Jackie actually texted me. And he says, 'Wow, I hear amazing things about your movie. Did you know that the boys came to see me in China? And I said, 'Yes, your loss, my bro!'"

Other brilliant performers featured in "Everything Everywhere All at Once" include Stephanie Hsu, Ke Huy Quan, Jenny Slate, Harry Shum Jr., and Jamie Lee Curtis.

Curtis once spoke about the project on "The Talk" in April while promoting it, saying there was "a touching story at the heart of everything."

She believed the film made one feel "tremendous heart" and added, "In the best of these sort of sci-fi multiverse movies, if they don't touch you, the audience leaves sort of inured."

"Everything Everywhere All at Once" is available in theaters and for rent or purchase on Amazon Prime Video.

Several months ago, while the multiverse movie was freshly released, Yeoh got emotional while discussing her role in the film, which she felt was made just for her.

The Blast reported that the production allowed her to display her diverse acting range universally as her character was a blend of multiple people in one body.

The role differed from any of the actress's previous roles, but she instantly felt a deep bond with the story.

While keeping her tears from flowing, Yeoh recalled reading the script and having the notion that she had found the opportunity of a lifetime. She said:

"This is something I've been waiting for a long time. That's going to give me the opportunity to show my fans, my family, my audience, what I'm capable of. To be funny, to be real, to be sad."

The Malaysian performer further implied of the directors, collectively known as 'The Daniels,' "Finally, somebody understood that I can do all these things." 

Getting the golden role did not mean Yeoh jumped at the opportunity immediately. Still, she ensured to meet with the directors in person as she needed to know how passionate they were about the project.

She explained that she could never leave her family for months at a time for a gig that lacked the tenacity to succeed. But fortunately, The Daniels were just as passionate as she was about bringing her role to life.

As for her portrayal of the character, the "Memoirs of a Geisha" star said she avoided adding her personality to her roles; instead, she saw characters as real people with their own way of life.

She added that she saw Evelyn Wang, her character in the sci-fi film, as someone who understood that she would never give up. This reflected on her as a person as she refused ever to quit.
