Fans of "The View" were shocked to hear who will be replacing Meghan McCain on the ABC talk show.

On Tuesday, The Daily Mail reported that Alyssa Farah Griffin, who served as former President Donald Trump’s White House communications director, will reportedly be taking over for McCain when the new season begins in September.

An ABC spokesperson did not confirm the report to Page Six. Instead, a spokesperson told the outlet to "Stay tuned," adding, “We do not have a co-host announcement to make at this time.”

In early July, a source told The Post that an official announcement for McCain's replacement was "imminent." On July 2, the insider told the publication, “You are starting to see familiar faces over and over. I would expect an announcement before the season ends on August 5.”

“If you watch the show, you can see people who are coming back regularly to join the co-hosts at the table," the source added. "It is an invaluable experience for the show. And it was always the plan to make sure they had a seat at the table.”

Alyssa Farah Griffin's Past Relationship With Donald Trump Has Generated Controversy

As Page Six noted, Griffin has often been the center of controversy due to her prior working relationship with former U.S. President Donald Trump. Griffin is considered the frontrunner to take over Meghan McCain's seat, with former GOP communications director Tara Setmayer running close behind. However, her past support for the MAGA giant might diminish her chances of actually landing a spot on the show.

Last week, the New York Post reported that comedian and Oscars host Wanda Sykes had actually canceled her appearance on "The View" because Griffin had been scheduled to co-host that day. A source told The Daily Beast that Sykes “didn’t want to be part of helping a Trumper launder her reputation.”

Even "The View" co-host Sunny Hostin has called out Griffin for supporting Trump in a panel discussion on the Jan. 6 committee hearings. During the discussion, as reported by Decider, Griffin said that she was “astounded” that there are “so few” people coming forward to contest Trump’s claims that the election was stolen. “The elected officials in Congress who know it wasn’t stolen aren’t saying anything. It’s this massive, uphill battle,” she said.

Hostin wanted to “question” Griffin’s claims, asking her, “I know there are people like yourself and others who are coming forward now but wasn’t the first impeachment enough?” She then added, “Didn’t you see a lot going on?”

Griffin said that she had been working in the Department of Defense during his first impeachment “working to get aid released to Ukraine” and had been “working actively against the Trump White House” by doing so. Hostin was quick to point out that Griffin stayed with the Trump administration, prompting Griffin to reply, “I believe people of good faith should stay in public service.”

Griffin said that her comments were "not directed at" Hostin before saying, “There are people who think that people like me … don’t deserve to have a voice because we worked for Donald Trump. I reject that. We are telling the truth now, we are telling it authentically, we are acknowledging what we did wrong … we all make mistakes.”

As Page Six previously reported, "The View" has been looking for a replacement for Meghan McCain ever since she quit the daytime talk show in July 2021 after four seasons.

Insiders told the outlet at the time that McCain was "miserable" on the job. “She’s been wanting to get out, especially since she now lives in the DC area with her family,” an insider divulged. “She doesn’t want to come back to New York and be a part of that show. She’s been miserable since she started.”

Moderator Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, and Sara Haines will all be returning when the new season starts in September. Fans of "The View" are eager for an official announcement to see if Alyssa Farah Griffin will really be taking over for the daughter of late Senator John McCain.
