Ellen Pompeo is speaking out for the first time after her "Grey's Anatomy" co-star Justin Chambers announced he's leaving the beloved show after 16 seasons. Chambers, who plays Dr. Alex Karev, revealed his shocking exit to Deadline on Friday. “There’s no good time to say goodbye to a show and character that’s defined so much of my life for the past 15 years,” he told the outlet. “For some time now, however, I have hoped to diversify my acting roles and career choices. And, as I turn 50 and am blessed with my remarkable, supportive wife and five wonderful children, now is that time.”

Retweeting a tweet by Vanity Fair on Saturday that stated, “#GreysAnatomy is about to feel one of its biggest losses yet,” Ellen Pompeo wrote, “Truer words have never been spoken @VanityFair" and added a breaking heart emoji. Pompeo, whose character is Dr. Meredith Grey, has starred alongside Justin Chambers since the ABC drama hit airwaves in 2005. Together, they have won countless awards including a Golden Globe for Best Television Series in 2007. That same year, they also won a SAG award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.
Justin Chambers concluded his statement by stating, “As I move on from Grey’s Anatomy, I want to thank the ABC family, Shonda Rhimes, original cast members Ellen Pompeo, Chandra Wilson and James Pickens, and the rest of the amazing cast and crew, both past and present, and, of course, the fans for an extraordinary ride.” The actor is just adding to the list of OGs who have left the hit hospital show in the last several years. However, that's not the ideal way Ellen Pompeo would want the show to end.

“Well, I can’t really say what I think, because if we really do what I want to do, then that would give it away,” the "Old School" actress told James Corden on the "Late Late Show." Teasing the crowd, Ellen Pompeo continued by stating, “I’d love to have some of the old cast come back. That probably won’t happen, but that would be the most amazing way to [end it] … There’s a lot of pressure on that final episode.”
