Kate Moss Explains Why She Testified For Johnny Depp In Amber Heard Trial

Model Kate Moss is finally opening up about why she decided to support her ex-boyfriend, Johnny Depp, in his defamation trial against Amber Heard.

While under oath, the "Aquaman" actress admitted that she heard a rumor that the "Pirates of the Caribbean" had once pushed the supermodel down the stairs. This allowed Depp's legal team to call her to testify about the rumors on May 25, shortly before the jury began their deliberations.

Although her testimony only lasted a few minutes, she did clear up the rumor once and for all. She told the jury that she slipped in the rain, and, not only did Depp not push her, but he actually carried her back up to the room to make sure she was okay.

As reported by TMZ, Moss told the Desert Island Discs, "I know the truth about Johnny. I had to say that truth."

Moss said that she was compelled to testify to present "fairness and justice" in the highly publicized trial in Fairfax County, Virginia.

The former couple had dated for three years in the 90s. Fans were hopeful that the pair might rekindle their romance after she came to his defense, but it appears that's not the case. At least the fans should be happy to know that the former couple are still good friends.

On May 25, Kate Moss testified from England that she had a romantic relationship with Johnny Depp from around 1994 to 1998. While they were in Jamaica, she said that they both left the hotel room separately. She said that Depp left the room first and then she followed. She mentioned that it was raining outside. She said that she slipped down the stairs and hurt her back. She said she screamed because she didn't realize what had happened to her and she was in pain. She said Depp came "running back" to help her and carried her back to the room.

She told the jury that Depp never pushed her, kicked her, or threw her. Her overall testimony only lasted just under three minutes. There was no cross-examination.

On June 1, a seven-person jury unanimously sided with Johnny Depp. "The Lone Ranger" actor had sued his ex-wife and "Rum Diary" costar Amber Heard for $50 million dollars, claiming that she committed defamation in her 2018 Washington Post op-ed where she declared herself a survivor of domestic violence. Depp had testified under oath that he never physically abused Heard or any woman, which was supported by the testimony of Kate Moss.

On June 1, the jury awarded Depp $15 million dollars: $10 million dollars in compensatory damages and $5 million dollars in punitive damages. The five million dollar sum was later reduced to $350,000 dollars, the maximum allowed under Virginia state law.

However, Amber Heard did not walk away empty handed. The "Zombieland" actress countersued for $100 million dollars, claiming that one of Depp's attorneys had committed defamation when he called her abuse claims "a hoax." The jury awarded Heard $2 million dollars.

Since that time, Heard's legal team was told that she would have to front an $8.3 million dollar bond in order to file an appeal. Her head attorney, Elaine Bredehoft, admitted that Amber Heard does not have that money. It then led to Heard's legal team asking the judge to declare a mistrial, citing a fake juror. However, Judge Penny Azcarate, who oversaw the initial trial, ruled that all jurors summoned had been properly vetted and had sat for the trial, and refused to declare a mistrial. Instead, she advised Heard's legal team to file an appeal with the court if she wished to do so.

On Thursday, Amber Heard did just that, although, according to the court documents, it looks like she has only put up $500 dollars for now as she works to come up with the rest of the money.
