Comedian Jo Koy is finally opening up about his relationship with ex-girlfriend Chelsea Handler after their recent split. Koy said that although he still has a lot of love for Handler, they have decided to remain just friends.
TMZ got an exclusive from Koy at the airport, where he insisted that the split hasn’t affected their relationship. Handler posted the news of their split on her Instagram page, penning how much she still cares for Koy and is thankful for the fan support.
According to sources close to the couple, their overwhelmingly busy schedules affected their relationship and pushed them to take a break. Still, their close friends and fans hope that the two might reconcile one day.

Jo Koy And Chelsea Handler Are Good Friends
During his conversation with TMZ, Koy made it clear that he and Handler’s split didn’t effect their affection for each other. The comedian also said they remain great friends, with no malice for each other.
Handler echoed the same statements in the Instagram post where she announced the split. She posted a video she and Koy had recorded for their one-year anniversary and wrote a long caption about their relationship, love, and the support they experienced from their fans, friends, and family.
In the caption, she wrote, “This is not an ending. It’s another beginning, and it’s a comfort to know that I am still loved and love this man the way the sun loves the moon and the moon loves the sun.”
They First Got Together In 2021
Koy and Handler were first romantically linked in early 2021 when Handler began posting videos of her and Koy hanging out on her social media. Soon after, Koy became a regular guest on her late-night talk show, “Chelsea Lately.”
During one episode of Handler’s podcast in October 2021, the comedian finally admitted that she had feelings for Koy but said she was suppressing them and wouldn’t act on it. That decision did not last long.
Not long after her statements, Handler confirmed that she and Koy were official when she posted a photo of them kissing on her Instagram. After that, the couple attended many events together and took every opportunity to show how affectionate they were toward each other.
Their Busy Schedules Affected The Relationship
Sources close to Koy and Handler revealed to TMZ that the couple mutually chose to end their relationship and that they made the decision just before Handler featured as a guest host on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”
The sources say the decision was influenced by the growing distance between the couple, which was caused by their extremely busy professional schedules. Handler is super busy preparing for her comedy tour while Koy is busy promoting an upcoming film.
During an interview on the “We Can Do Hard Things with Glennon Doyle” podcast, Handler opened up about the split with Doyle. She said, “No one cheated or anything like that. It just didn’t work out. I did everything I could to make it work, but it didn’t work out.”
Jo Koy And Chelsea Handler Are Busy With Their Careers
Koy has also shared that he is focusing all his time and energy on promoting his upcoming film, “Easter Sunday,” while Handler is super busy with her upcoming comedy tour. Koy also clarified that he doesn’t want to think of anything other than the film and has no interest in jumping back into the dating and relationship pool.
Koy also said that he and Handler are no longer talking as much, and it gives him enough reason to see that there is little chance of them getting back together. Despite his statements, TMZ’s sources say that their inner circle has hope of a reunion in the future, probably after their schedules calm down.
