Kate McKinnon isn't sure what she'll be watching on TV Saturday nights this fall, but it probably won't be her old show. After calling "Saturday Night Live" home for 10 years, the hilarious actress thought it was time for a change and announced her departure in May. And while it wasn't an easy decision to make for her, she felt the time was right to make some moves.

Leaving SNL was a Hard Decision, and She's Not Likely to Tune in This Season

On a recent episode of "Live With Kelly and Ryan," she explained what made her decide to take a leap into change. "I thought about it for a very long time, and it was very, very, hard. All I ever wanted to do in my whole life was be on 'Saturday Night Live,'" she explained. "So, I did, I loved it, I had the best decade, and then I was just like 'my body was tired' and I felt like it was time."

When asked if she will be tuning in to the new season of "SNL" she responded, "I don't know what I will do. I don't know that I can watch the show yet because it's too emo because I miss everyone so much. It's my family, it's too emo." So what will she be watching on Saturday nights instead? "So I think I'm just going to tape 'The Bachelorette' and watch it," she said.

Live From New York, It's Saturday Night!

McKinnon, 38, has been on the late-night show for ten consecutive years and holds the record as the longest-running female cast member in the show's history. She's also yelled the famous opening line "Live from New York, it's Saturday Night" 75 times, which is the second highest amount of times for any cast member. She's known for playing a wide variety of characters - from Rudy Giuliani to Justin Bieber to Hillary Clinton - and so many others. In her final "SNL" episode, McKinnon reprised her character of Colleen Rafferty, who volunteered to be abducted by aliens. She ended up breaking character with tears in her eyes as she said her emotional goodbye to views saying, "Earth, I love ya! Thanks for letting me stay a while."

McKinnon Didn't Leave the Show Alone

When McKinnon's departure from the show was announced, it was also said that a few other cast members were leaving as well. Pete Davidson, Kyle Mooney and Aidy Bryant also announced that they were leaving.

Bryant, who joined the show with McKinnon back in 2012, said she was leaving the show because of uncertainty. "If it weren't for COVID, I probably would have left a few years earlier. But it was such a huge change. When COVID hit, it was so jarring that we were all like, 'I'm definitely going to come back next year,' she told Variety last month. "And then I had to shoot 'Shrill' for half of last season, and so I missed a lot. And then it was like, 'Well, now I should go back one more.'" Bryant kept seeking one last normal year, and the last year on the show for her wasn't the normal year she was looking for, but felt it was time.

Davidson hinted for years that he wasn't happy. But when it was time to leave, he left with a message about his journey that was shared to "SNL" writer Dave Sirus' Instagram. "When I got the show I was 20 years old and I had no idea what I was doing. I still don't but especially back then. I wasn't really a sketch performer I was just a stand up," the message said. "I knew I could never keep up or go toe to toe with a Kenan Thompson or a Kate McKinnon so I was super scared at figuring out what I could possibly bring to or do for such a historic, respected show and platform. We were together through the good and the bad, the happiest and the darkest times. I owe Lorne Michaels and everyone at SNL my life. I'm so grateful and I wouldn't be here without them. I appreciate you guys always having my back and sticking up for me even when that wasn't the popular opinion."

Mooney announced on his Instagram that he was leaving but didn't give any reasons why.
