Alicia Silverstone Still Sleeping With 11-Year-Old Son?! -- It's 'Just Weird'

Alicia Silverstone is embracing her own parenting style to the fullest, even if that means taking heat from her fans and the public!

The 'Clueless' actress put her parenting style on display explaining an unconventional or unique way of doing things, regardless of what anyone thinks. In a recent interview on 'The Ellen Fisher Podcast,' she explains exactly what sets her parenting style apart from the more common ones.

When the subject of co-sleeping joined the chat, Silverstone explained that she's always co-slept with her son Bear, 11, and STILL does.

"Bear and I still sleep together. I'll be in trouble for saying that and I don't really care," she said. Adding, "If you were in any kind of wild setting where there are animals...if you put your baby over there your baby is going to get eaten. It's not ideal for the baby to be over there." The "Clueless" actress, 45, went on to say that motherhood is the "most unbelievable experience in this world."

Silverstone is currently co-parenting with her ex-husband, musician Christopher Jarecki. The couple officially divorced in 2018 after 13 years of marriage but continue to be friends and co-parent together.

When the topic of why Bear is an only child came up, Silverstone explained, "I wanted to have more [kids], but then my relationship got messed up, and it wasn't a great time to bring one in. I didn't want to have one right away because I was so in love with my Bear. I wanted to squeeze every little moment out of him, so it wasn't until he was like three that I was ready to make another baby and then I didn't have a partner, so that's why I don't have four babies."

As you can imagine, the admission of sleeping with an 11-year child sparked a huge debate on social media, with emotional reactions on both sides. "That kid is going have attachment issues when they grow up. What’s with celebrities and setting up their children for a lifetime of mental strife?" one person tweeted.

Another added bluntly, "No that's just weird."

Of course, several other fans supported the actress for making her own decisions on parenting, with one saying, "I don’t really see the big deal on this one may be cos I’m from a third world country where poverty can make several people share a bed." Another added, "It definitely sounds odd, but I'm not sure I'd say it's wrong or unnatural."

Silverstone said she's never raised her voice at her son. "I'm a natural mama, and I'm a loving mama," she explained. "I believe in love, I believe in nature and our society is scared of nature and love." She also discussed the different approach she took to potty training Bear when he was only six months old called "elimination communication." "The queues part for me was really fun because I thought that he was flirting with me because he would do this little smile. That's when he had to pee," she said. "It's so awesome. It's so easy. When I was done feeding him, he would go to the bathroom in the toilet. When he woke up from a nap, he went to the bathroom."

Silverstone is raising Bear vegan and discussed the benefits with Today Parents in May 2020. "The food I choose for myself and for him keeps us calm and centered. That is my parenting trick, that's my tool," she said. "When I eat well, I sleep well, and then I can be really really patient for each little morsel of his being. We only have so much time with these monkeys."
