Actress Hailee Steinfeld is known for her killer curves.
She recently sat down with Shape to talk about the intense training she had to do when she entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Kate Bishop in the Disney+ live-action series "Hawkeye," which saw actor Jeremy Renner reprise his role as the titular Avenger.
The 25-year-old model recently revealed one of the exercises she had to do for the role and it sounds absolutely brutal!
Hailee Steinfeld Reveals She Gets Her Toned Abs By Doing Bear Crawls The Length Of A Football Field!
Even before she had officially started the part, Hailee knew she had to get in serious shape and turned to her dad, a fitness trainer, for advice.
"I knew I wanted to get to a place physically that anything could be thrown at me on the day [if I got the role]," she said.
One of the exercises that she had to do was bear crawls across the length of a football field. The exercise is beneficial to work the arms and the abs in particular, but it's also killer on the quads and works the entire body.
Hailee laughed that the exercise was so brutal, that it was "short-lived" in her workout routine.
Along with bear crawls, the "Pitch Perfect 2" star also did circuit training, full-body work, and "a lot of endurance" training to prepare for a role.
Considering that her character is an archer, Hailee also worked with an archery coach to sharpen her skills before filming even began. Even though it doesn't seem as physically intensive as those bear crawls, Hailee revealed it was just as physically demanding.
"Let me tell you, [archery] will work out muscles you didn't even know you had," she said.
If she's not preparing for a role, Hailee Steinfeld still likes to keep active. She goes on long walks with her dogs, does yoga and pilates, and likes to calm both her body and her mind with guided meditations.
"I think finding your balance is truly about finding your happiness and being patient with yourself and being kind to yourself," she explained. "It is a term that we hear a lot along with a lot of suggestions as to maybe how to find that balance, but I think you are the one, the only one, that can really define what that is for you."
"I love working out, but I also love doing nothing: sitting in my backyard looking up at the trees and the sky and breathing," she continued. "I think we all can find three to five minutes to ourselves just to breath and remind ourselves of where we're at and check in with ourselves."
The 'Dickinson' Star Knows How Important It Is To Stay Hydrated!
Hailee Steinfeld also talked about the importance of staying hydrated, and not just when you're working out.
"I've gotten to a point where, if I don't hydrate, my body lets me know very quickly," she said, noting how important adequate water intake is for keeping skin healthy and glowing.
The "Bumblebee" actress takes her hydration goals so seriously that she's even partnered with the water bottle brand Core Hydration. To keep herself hydrated, she keeps alarms set on her phone reminding her to drink more water.
"I love the bottles that have the little markers of encouragement on them," she added.
She also said that water intake is important to her goal of leading a healthy lifestyle. "My goal always is to feel great, and how amazing that in working out and in working out properly, you get to reap physical benefits from that," she explained.
Hailee revealed that she learned the physical benefits of exercise from her father and she spends most of her workout time with him.
"I always feel the need to say that because sometimes I'm like, 'I work out with my dad,' and people are like, 'oh that's cute,' and I'm like, 'oh no, it's not cute,'" she explained.
She called his training "very challenging and very hard but so much fun."
"My dad knows me and knows what I'm capable of more than anyone," she added. "He pushes me to the best of my ability, and I come out stronger every single time."
