Chris Pratt Breaks Silence On Rumors He Might Replace Harrison Ford As Indiana Jones

Actor Chris Pratt may have become the face of the "Jurassic World" and "Guardians of the Galaxy" franchises. Still, he said there is no way he will replace Harrison Ford as the whip-slinging archeologist Indiana Jones.
Back in February, Ford, now 80, finally wrapped up filming the long-awaited fifth Indiana Jones film, which is still without a title. Considering Ford hurt his shoulder rehearsing a fight scene last summer and didn't return to film until the fall, it looks like this will be Ford's final run as the iconic character.
That, of course, has brought up the question of who will replace him and there are rumors swirling around that Chris Pratt will be that guy. Fortunately, it seems Pratt understands there's only one Indiana Jones and that's Harrison Ford.
Chris Pratt Shuts Down Rumors He'll Replace Harrison Ford As Indiana Jones

Pratt shut down rumors that he was going to star in a possible “Indiana Jones 6” as the titular character during an appearance on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast.
“I don’t even know who Steven Spielberg is. Who? Steven Who?” Pratt joked.

“No, aren’t they doing ‘Indiana Jones’ with Harrison Ford?” he asked. “All I know is I once saw a quote from Harrison Ford and I don’t even know if it was really him but it was enough to scare me, that was like, ‘When I die, Indiana Jones dies.’ And I’m like, am I gonna get haunted by the ghost of Harrison Ford one day when he dies if I play…?”
The interview that Pratt seems to be referring to goes all the way back to 2019 when Ford seemed reluctant to pass the torch, er, wide-brimmed sable fedora, on to a new actor.
Harrison Ford: 'I'm Indiana Jones. When I'm Gone, He's Gone.'
During a 2019 appearance on the TODAY show, Harrison Ford, who also starred as smuggler Han Solo in the "Star Wars" franchise, plainly stated that he is Indiana Jones and he cannot be replaced.
“Don’t you get it? I’m Indiana Jones. When I’m gone, he’s gone. It’s easy,” he said.
“This is a h--- of a way to tell Chris Pine this. I’m sorry, man,” he added, confusing Chris Pratt for Chris Pine.

Harrison Ford will play Indiana Jones for a fifth, and what many believe to be a final time, in the still-untitled "Indiana Jones 5." Steven Spielberg passed the reins to James Mangold for this project, making it the first "Indiana Jones" film that Spielberg did not direct.
Fortunately, Mangold and Ford already have a good working relationship. Mangold produced Ford's 2020 film "The Call of the Wild."
Joining Ford on his possibly last adventure are "Hannibal" star Mads Mikkelsen, "Fleabag" creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge, "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom" actor Toby Jones, and "The Mask of Zorro" star Antonio Banderas.

Earlier this year, the Spanish actor told USA Today that it was "so unbelievable" to see Ford wearing his Indiana Jones costume in person.
“The first day I arrived, I was in the makeup trailer, and I turned around and there he was in the full Indiana costume with the hat and the whip. Phoebe Waller-Bridge was there with him, too, and it was so cool," he recalled. "I still remember the first time I saw ‘Indiana Jones’ in a theater and the crowd was crazy about it. I thought, ‘This is like going back to the old adventure (movies) in a completely different way.'”

Back in April, Mads Mikkelsen also sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to talk about what it was like working with Harrison Ford on set.
Mikkelsen said that he was impressed with Ford, noting, “It was the first time I met him and he’s an insanely powerful person. Not just an actor, but physically.”
He explained, “I remember the first day we were shooting, it was a night shoot, then we stopped at 5 a.m. — and then he got on his mountain bike and went biking for 50 kilometers [31 miles]. Harrison is a monster of a man, a very nice monster.”

Fans can look forward to seeing the "very nice monster" return as Indiana Jones when "Indiana Jones 5" hits theaters on June 30, 2023. Fans of Chris Pratt won't have to wait too long to see him in theaters again, either. Pratt will reprise his role as Star Lord in James Gunn’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” which is scheduled for release on May 5, 2023.
