Mickey Rourke Says He Has 'No Respect' For Tom Cruise

Apparently, Mickey Rourke is just not a fan of actor Tom Cruise.
At the end of June, Deadline reported that Cruise's latest movie "Top Gun: Maverick" pulled in more than one billion dollars at the worldwide box office in only 31 days. The sequel to the 1986 original "Top Gun" is the most successful movie of Cruise's long career.
However, that failed to impress Mickey Rourke, who dismissed the "Mission Impossible" star as "irrelevant."
Mickey Rourke SLAMS Tom Cruise Amid 'Top Gun: Maverick' Success: 'I Think He's Irrelevant'
In a new interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored, "Sin City" star Mickey Rourke, now 69, was asked about what he thought of Tom Cruise, 60, and his latest "Top Gun" movie.
Rourke didn't mince words when it came to his criticism of "The Mummy" actor, saying, "The guy’s been doing the same effing part for 35 years … I got no respect for that."
He also said that he wasn't impressed by the fact that "Top Gun: Maverick" managed to take home one billion dollars in only 31 days, saying, "I don't care about money or power."
Still, there are some greats in Hollywood that Rourke does seem to admire. “I care about, when I watch Al Pacino work and [Christopher] Walken and [Robert] De Niro’s early work and Richard Harris’ work and Ray Winstone’s work, that’s the kind of actor I want to be like," he said. "[Montgomery] Clift and [Marlon] Brando back in the day.”
When Piers Morgan asked if Rourke thought Tom Cruise was a good actor, Rourke replied, "I think he's irrelevant, in my world."
"Top Gun: Maverick" sees Tom Cruise return as Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell to train Naval Fighter Weapons School graduates for a special assignment, although he is still haunted by the ghosts of his past. One of the graduates that Cruise's character is training is Bradley 'Rooster' Bradshaw (Miles Teller), the son of Maverick's best friend that passed away in the first film: Nick 'Goose' Bradshaw, played by Anthony Edwards.
Val Kilmer also returned to reprise his role as Lieutenant Tom 'Iceman' Kazansky. The sequel was directed by Joseph Kosinski and also starred "Snowpiercer" actress Jennifer Connelly, Glen Powell, Monica Barbaro, Ed Harris, Jon Hamm, and Jay Ellis.
Is There Going To Be A Third 'Top Gun' Movie?
In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, which took place at a celebrity golf tournament at South Lake Tahoe, "TopGun: Maverick" actor Miles Teller revealed that he has had conversations with Tom Cruise about returning for a third movie in the franchise.
When asked by Kevin Frazier if there will be a third Top Gun film, Teller replied:
“That would be great, but that's all up to TC, that's all up to Tom. I've been having some conversations with him about it but, you know, we'll see.”
Frazier also pointed out that this is Cruise’s first movie to gross over one billion dollars.
“Yeah, that's definitely what my team has been, you know, saying for these future negotiations,” Teller joked. “But no... for him to share Top Gun with me and a lot of these other young actors and to bring us into that world, it's just been such a wild ride and it's still going.”
In a separate interview with Entertainment Weekly, “Top Gun: Maverick” director Joseph Kosinski seemed to echo what Miles Teller had to say and hint that the future of the franchise came down to Tom Cruise.
“It's all about the story for Tom, and if we can figure out a way to tell what Maverick's up to next, who knows,” Kosinski said.
REVIEW: Top Gun: Maverick is the best film I’ve seen in the last 5 years. As someone who never saw the first one, it was very easy to follow and is just a blast to watch from start to finish. Please go see this if you haven’t yet.

Fortunately, reviews for the film have been pretty positive, with both critics, celebrities, and fans endorsing the latest "Top Gun" movie as well.
Although Mickey Rourke might not be a fan of Tom Cruise, if they do make a "Top Gun 3," it seems that fans will be lining up around the block to see it! Fans can see the clip of Mickey Rourke talking to Piers Morgan in the tweet below.
