Shawn Mendes Postpones Three Weeks Of World Tour 'To Heal'
On Friday night, the “Treat You Better” singer announced that he was taking a break from his “Wonder: The World Tour,” which started last month in Portland. Shows are scheduled through August 2023.
“This breaks my heart to have to say this, but unfortunately I’m going to have to postpone the next three weeks of shows through Uncasville, CT until further notice,” he began in an Instagram post.
“I’ve been touring since I was 15 and to be honest it’s always been difficult to be on the road away from friends and family,” he explained. “After a few years off the road, I was ready to dive back in, but the decision was premature and unfortunately the toll of the road and the pressure has caught up to me and I’ve hit a breaking point.”
“After speaking with my team and health professionals, I need to take some time to heal and take care of myself and my mental health, first and foremost,” he continued. “As soon as there are more updates I promise I will let you know love you guys.” He capped off the post with a red heart emoji.
This is not the only time that Shawn Mendes has been upfront with fans about his mental health struggles.
A Lengthy Tweet From April 2022 Drew Fan Concern
— Shawn Mendes (@ShawnMendes) April 20, 2022
In April 2022, fans of the "There's Nothing Holding Me Back" singer expressed concern for him online after he posted a lengthy tweet about his feelings.
“sometimes I ask my self what it is that I should be ding with my life and what I always hear in return is ‘to tell the truth, to be the truth,’” he began. “I feel like that’s a hard thing to do though. I’m afraid that if people know and see the truth, they might think less of me. they might become bored of me.”
“So in those moments of feeling low I either put on a show or hide,” he continued. “the truth, in current form is a 23 year old who constantly feels like he’s either flying or drowning. Maybe that’s just what it is to be in your 20’s idk, or maybe that’s just me.”
“the truth is I really do wanna show up in the world as my 100% true honest unique self and not care what anyone thinks, sometimes I do!!” he went on. “sometimes I really don’t care what people think and I feel free. Most of the time it’s a struggle tho. That’s the truth.”
“the truth is even with so much success I still find it hard to feel like I’m not failing,” he added. “hyper focused on what I don’t have, forgetting to see all that I do. The truth is I’m overwhelmed and overstimulated lol.”
However, he quickly tried to reassure his fans, adding, “the truth is ALSO that I’m okay. I’m just tryna tell and be the truth. I like to think that maybe me saying this might resonate with some people.”
The tweet caused many fans to express concern about his mental health and well-being, which quickly prompted a follow-up tweet.
