Red Bull Culture Clash Makes Phenomenal Return to LA

In what was a decade in the making, Red Bull finally returned to present their amazing Culture Clash series to LA. A night that was devoted to LA's rich history of Latinx musical and cultural diaspora with a major focus on reggaeton, global bass, and hip-hop.

Four of the best music crews that are so influential in the LA music scene went all out to compete against each other to be named the Culture Clash LA champion. Mixed with amazing performances and surprise guests from the best MCs, DJs, and producers in the world, all the crews did all they could do to be declared the winner of the night.

So who won and what incredible things happened when Gasolina, The Do-Over, Subsuelo, and Recreo went to battle? By the end of the night, the answer would be a tremendous amount!

Taking place at the Shrine Auditorium in Downtown LA and hosted by Mando Fresko and Letty from Power-106, fans in attendance were treated with tons of performances that soon will not be forgotten. The rules of the night consisted of a four-round head-to-head battle between the crews. Each round, the crews had 15 minutes to display their best efforts and best performances. The first round was basically a round for the crews to warm up and introduce themselves to the crowd. The second round was based on specific song selections and fun smack talk and then the third round is where it really started as crews would really have to dive into it all by swapping styles and leaving their wheelhouse to see if they could deliver a musical journey for the crowd by using another crews style against them. And then the fourth round is when you bring out your surprise guests and go full force to win the night. One thing that was consistent throughout the night was that the crews couldn't do the same songs in their sets as that would lead to disqualification. Which actually ended up happening to Gasolina, more on that in a moment. But when it came down to gauge the ultimate winner of the night, a decibel meter for the fans in attendance ended up determining who won each round and who eventually won the night.

The event showcased four music crews that many know are crews that always deliver. The crews were Gasolina, The Do Over, Subsuelo and Recreo, who all took their individual stages for four rounds of competition that brought amazing music, amazing performances and some legendary special guests. From legendary reggaeton duo, Luny Tunes, Tony Touch, Ape Drums, Sky Rompiendo, Los Rakas, Álvaro Díaz, DJ Playero, and DJ Blass. And surprise appearances from Cypress Hill, Ying Yang Twins, Danny Trejo, Aloe Blacc, Xzibit, Don Chezina, Walshy Fire, Nina Sky, the USC Trojan Marching Band, Frankie Quiñones (aka Creeper #CholoFit) it was quite the night of entertainment on each of the four stages.

The Blast was in the house for the festivities and it was legitimately hard for us to determine who was going to win the night. Gasolina was thriving all night and when they brought out the Ying Yang Twins, it seemed that they had the crowd in their hands and could possibly have won the event but it was announced before the final round that they repeated a song from earlier in the night, which as we talked about earlier made them have to be disqualified.

That left Subsuelo and The Do-Over to battle for the championship. And who pulled it off?

But it all came down to the final round or so we thought, where The Do-Over Crew, featuring Tony Touch, completely rocked the stage as they performed a collection of disco, dancehall, house, and hip-hop, and even added some soul and samba. They even brought out the USC marching band. But was that enough? The fans couldn't decide who won, so it was then announced that there would be one more round as the crews embarked on a tie-breaker round. The final battle was as epic as you'd imagine but The Do-Over made sure to save the best for last and they ultimately won and then gave the crowd one last performance as champs.

The crew was very appreciative of how the night turned out for them as they showed their respect on Instagram to everyone involved saying, “We wanted to extend a thank you to @redbull @redbullusa @godouble0 for including The Do-Over in the return of Red Bull Culture Clash. The real winning team is the City of LA,🥇” the group said in a statement on Instagram. “Major respect to the other crews @gasolina_party@recreorecreo @subsuelocrew @apedrums @milkman@falcons @ronald_sdp @iamcclove @elcanyonazo @djethos@joaqu.n as it’s been months of blood, sweat & tears to pull this off so a big salute to all of the squads! 🤝👏”

It was an incredible evening and everyone in attendance only hopes it doesn't take another ten years to return to LA, thankfully it was without question worth the wait. The Red Bull Culture Clash delivered and then some.
