Fans of singer Kelly Clarkson hope that she’ll release new music soon.
The good news is that the “American Idol” alum, now 40, does have plans to release new music. Unfortunately, those have been somewhat derailed by her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, 45, as she juggles the demands of divorce.
Kelly Clarkson Calls Divorce ‘The Hardest Thing To Navigate’
In an interview with The Chart with Brooke Reese on Apple Music One, as reported by PEOPLE, the “Because Of You” singer called divorce “the hardest thing to navigate,” adding, “I’ve never had this difficult of a project.”
“It's one of those things where I'm a human and I'm going through something huge,” she explained. “Obviously, everybody knows a huge divorce went through and it's been like, two years and not easy with kids.”
The couple has two children together: River Rose Blackstock, 8, and Remington Alexander Blackstock, 6. The couple tied the knot in 2013 and called it quits in June 2020 after almost seven years of marriage. The divorce wasn’t finalized until March of this year.
Kelly Clarkson Cites One Of Billie Eilish’s Hit Tunes For Inspiration
The “Breakaway” singer said that it’s difficult managing divorce “in the public eye,” but adding two children into the mix “makes it a whole different dynamic.” To take care of her own mental health, she focuses on writing.
“I've always had a hard time communicating and literally that's how I became a writer at the age of 10, because my mom was like, 'You need to quit bottling it up. And then you explode. You need to communicate better,'” she recalled. “And so I literally started writing to help me do that.”
She plugged Billie Eilish’s hit song “Happier Than Ever” as an example of how artists can use music to influence others. Clarkson revealed that she was inspired by the song and released a cover of the hit song along with several other songs in a “Kellyoke Covers EP.”
“That song I'm sure means a whole heap of different things for her. And it's her world and why she wrote it,” Clarkson explained. “But the domino effect of her releasing that and how it affects so many other people, because those are the songs when you are completely honest and you're angry and you're sad and you're hurt.”
“And all those things, that equation makes for the best songs,” she added. “So I'm just navigating what I'm comfortable with releasing.”
Kelly Clarkson Reveals That New Music Is ‘Coming’
Although fans are excited by the Kellyoke Covers EP, they would also love the “Since U Been Gone” singer to put out some new tunes. Clarkson didn’t reveal a release date, but she did indicate that it’s “coming.”
“I just got to get my c--- together!” she joked.
Back in March, a source told PEOPLE that Clarkson is ready to move forward with her life and put her divorce behind her.
“Kelly is obviously happy to have the divorce finalized,” the source revealed. “The kids have always been her main priority through everything. She truly is able to begin the next chapter of her life with her kids, and she's also busier than ever with her career. She's in a great place.”
