On Wednesday, social media was buzzing with the news that Cameron Diaz had finally come out of retirement!
The queen of romantic comedies has hit the pause button on her retirement to star alongside “Beat Shazam!” host Jamie Foxx in a new Netflix movie called “Back in Action.”
Jamie Foxx Announces Cameron Diaz’s Return To Acting

On Twitter, the “Ray” star announced the news by posting a clip of him talking to the “Charlie’s Angels” star and NFL player Tom Brady.
Foxx captioned the post, “Cameron I hope you aren’t mad I recorded this, but no turning back now. Had to call in the GOAT to bring back another GOAT. @CameronDiaz and I are BACK IN ACTION - our new movie with @NetflixFilm. Production starting later this year!!”
The audio clip contained a snippet of a phone conversation, where Diaz says, “Thanks for calling. I’m so anxious right now. I’m like… pacing the room.” When Foxx asks how she feels, Diaz says, “I feel excited, but I don’t know how to do this, ya know?”
Foxx replies, “I understand. Listen, I got somebody on the other line who can help you with this.”
Brady can then be heard saying, “I was talking to Jamie, and he said you needed a few tips on how to unretire. I am relatively successful at unretiring.”
“Honestly… exactly what I needed,” Cameron replies.
It’s appropriate that the news is coming from Brady, as he announced that he was going to retire from football earlier this year. He then backtracked two months later and announced that he was coming back to play another season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Foxx and Diaz have a long film history together. They appeared together in the Oliver Stone film “Any Given Sunday” in 1999. They most recently shared the screen in the film version of “Annie,” which hit theaters in December 2014.
The plot of the movie hasn’t been revealed, but, according to Deadline, Seth Gordon of “Horrible Bosses” fame is directing from a script he wrote with Brendan O’Brien. Beau Bauman will produce the film for Good One Productions along with Gordon for Exhibit A. Foxx, Datari Turner, O’Brien, and Mark McNair will serve as executive producers.
Why Did Cameron Diaz Decide To Retire From Acting?
In a conversation with Gwyneth Paltrow for her brand Goop, “The Mask” actress explained why she decided to retire in 2018.
“When you’re making a movie, it’s a perfect excuse. They own you,” she explained. “You’re there for 12 hours a day. For months on end, you have no time for anything else. I realized I handed off parts of my life to all these other people and they took it.”
Another reason she decided to retire was to spend more time with her family. After more than twenty years in film, Diaz married Good Charlotte guitarist Benji Madden, 43, in 2015. The two share a daughter named Raddix Madden, who was born in December 2019.
On January 5, the rocker took to Instagram to honor his wife with an adorable 7-year anniversary tribute.
“Today 7 years married ❤️,” he wrote. “Always dreamed of having a family like this. Happy, peaceful, consistent, loyal and unconditional equally filled with passion and depth.”
“Calling it a Honeymoon doesn’t cover it. Real life,” he added. “The only real challenge we have is making time go slower cause life goes by fast in the happy lane, Always and forever knowing we are home @camerondiaz Happy Anniversary I love you!❤️❤️❤️”
