Singer Taylor Swift has done it again!

Fans may remember that two of her most popular songs – “Safe and Sound” and “Eyes Open” – were featured on the soundtrack for “The Hunger Games.” The “All Too Well” singer has released yet another new song, this time, for “Where the Crawdads Sing.”

What Is ‘Where The Crawdads Sing’?

The upcoming drama/mystery will be released on July 15. Directed by Olivia Newman, the synopsis reads: “A woman who raised herself in the marshes of the deep South becomes a suspect in the murder of a man she was once involved with.”

Adopted by the 2018 New York Times Bestseller from Della Owens, the movie features a cast of Daisy Edgar-Jones, Taylor John Smith, Harris Dickinson, Michael Hyatt, Sterling Macer, Jr., and David Strathaim.

The “You Belong With Me” singer announced on Instagram that she had written the soundtrack for the film when the trailer was released on March 22.

“Where The Crawdads Sing is a book I got absolutely lost in when I read it years ago,” Taylor wrote in an Instagram message beside the trailer.

“As soon as I heard there was a film in the works starring the incredible @daisyedgarjones and produced by the brilliant @reesewitherspoon, I knew I wanted to be a part of it from the musical side,” she continued. “I wrote the song ‘Carolina’ alone and asked my friend @aarondessner to produce it.”

“I wanted to create something haunting and ethereal to match this mesmerizing story,” she added.

At midnight on Friday, June 24, the song was finally released, and Taylor took to Twitter to explain why she had written it.

Taylor Swift Reveals She Wrote ‘Carolina’ In The Middle Of The Night!

Taylor released a short 44-second clip and explained that she had actually written the song over a year ago.

“About a year & half ago I wrote a song about the story of a girl who always lived on the outside, looking in. Figuratively & literally,” Taylor explained. “The juxtaposition of her loneliness & independence. Her curiosity & fear all tangled up. Her persisting gentleness & the world’s betrayal of it.”

Taylor added, “I wrote this one alone in the middle of the night and then @AaronDessner and I meticulously worked on a sound that we felt would be authentic to the moment when this story takes place. I made a wish that one day you would hear it. ‘Carolina’ is out now 🥺.”

Longtime friend and collaborating partner, Aaron Dessner, also took to Twitter to promote her new single.

He tweeted, “I’m so excited for you all to finally hear ‘Carolina’, a hauntingly beautiful song @taylorswift13 wrote, based on Delia Owens’ incredible novel ‘Where the Crawdads Sing’, and which will feature in @CrawdadsMovie, a forthcoming movie based on the book.”

Aaron added, “It’s one of my favorite songs @taylorswift13 has written and it was an honor to help her record and produce it. We played old acoustic instruments and channeled the eery beauty of the North Carolina marsh where the story is set.”

He added, “It sounds fittingly like this recording could have been made a long time ago. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do. Thanks so much to @ReidJenksMusic for playing fiddle and @heyjonlow for mixing.”

The song “Carolina” is now available. “Where the Crawdads Sing” will hit theaters on July 15.
