Erika Jayne Gets Candid About Her Dating Life: 'It's Hard'

Actress and TV personality Erika Jayne has spoken up about her love life two years after announcing her divorce from ex-husband Thomas Girardi. Since their split, the 50-year-old has been in the process of rebuilding her life from the ashes of the wrecked marriage that was filled with multiple controversies.

She has attempted to deal with that past by trying to get back on the dating wagon by making attempts to go on dates and meet new people, with hopes of sparking possible friendships and, eventually, relationships.

In a recent interview, she revealed that those moves have been with increasing failure and has described how her quirks, alongside those individuals being "scared" of her, have caused things to not work out.

On E! News Daily Pop on June 22, the "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star spoke up about her love life following her divorce from her controversial ex-husband. She revealed to host Justin Sylvester that while she has tried multiple times to start a new relationship, her experiences with meeting new guys did not always turn out well in the long run.

"It's hard because I don't think people really know what to expect," Erika said. "And I can't get on an app. What if [Jeffrey] Dahmer shows up?"

After a couple of dates that didn't go anywhere, the actress quickly realized the problem. She revealed to Sylvester that her persona was one of the obstacles that caused a breakdown in her communication with her suitors.

"I say exactly how I feel, and I realize that men don't like that," Jayne added. "They say they want a woman that's forward, but they really don't."

The reality star tagged her bold trait as being "socially awkward," claiming that it made many of the new guys she had met scared of her and unwilling to go beyond having more than a first date.

"They actually told me, 'I'm afraid of you.' And I was like, 'Why? I'm modern. I thought I was doing what women are supposed to do, which is speak your mind and say what you like,' and no."

However, not being able to land a fully committed relationship has not stopped the actress from getting some action. Back in April, Jayne told host Teddi Mellencamp of "Two T's in a Pod" podcast, that her sex life was active.

"Are you currently having sex? Mellencamp asked, with the "Pretty Mess" singer replying, "Yes, and it's good."

At the time, the actress refused to answer if she was having sex with more than one partner, only revealing that her sex partner was younger than her.

Despite her dismal luck in getting into a committed relationship, Erika informed Sylvester that she was happy with her life, emphasizing her joy at having the chance to start again. Her previous marriage to Girardi crashed and burned when she and her now-ex-husband were accused of fraud and embezzlement, which has continued to besmear them even though they are now divorced.

"I've had a chance to completely start over and be free from an over 20-year marriage and almost wipe the whole slate clean in a way," she said.

Starting over again has not been an easy one for the actress. She described her rebuilding process as scary, even though it contained many opportunities.

"It's my life to rebuild, so, in that way, it's a lot of opportunities, but it's scary at the same time. So, that's when I say 'no,' it's scary and I don't really know what I'm doing. I'm just out here trying to make it happen."

If and when she eventually lands a new guy, fans of the reality stars might not be surprised about his traits as she previously dropped several clues.

According to People, the actress is not interested in dating men much older than her implying she was tired of having so much age gap between her partners. Jayne was married to Girardi, who is currently 82, which puts the difference in their age at above 30 years.

"I'm not doing the older thing anymore," she told the publication. "I'm 50, so maybe somebody in my age range, but I'm not doing [it] anymore."

The reality star also wouldn't want anyone who is not beyond his looks, revealing to TMZ late last year that her kind of guy must possess "intelligence" and adding that looks are "on the lower scale" of importance. At the time, she also remarked that she does not mind dating younger men, but she will only date males around 25 and over.
