Although some parents think that “Lightyear” might not be suitable for children under ten due to its complex sci-fi themes, one person believes that the movie is too sexual for youngsters and is warning parents to keep their kids away from the films.

A group called Christians Against Buzz Lightyear has over ten thousand members on Facebook. Group creator Wade Wilson posted a long message on the group page saying that his daughters will not be allowed to see the movie. In his words, “It is time to stop being quiet while the world tries to corrupt our children.”

The post has since gone viral online, attracting more than 19K reactions, 31K comments, and over 1.6K shares. On the group’s main page, it says “Disney’s assault on conservative Christian values is continued in this new Lightyear movie” and criticized Disney, saying, “now they want to shove the LGBT agenda into a show about a toy.”

“Why does sexuality have to be in children’s movies?” Wilson asked. “Aidan and I watched Lightyear tonight.”

Mild spoilers for the movie are listed below describing the relationship each of the characters has to one another.

Wilson wrote: “The beginning (first 5ish minutes) of the movie was mainly about Buzz and his partner Hawthorne (female). Buzz is in space 4 years and when he returns, Hawthorne is wearing a ring. He asks Hawthorne about HER girlfriend. He leaves again and comes back and now Hawthorne is pregnant, next few scenes are of Hawthorne, her wife a baby, then a picture of the couple and their son’s graduation, next a 40th anniversary party for Hawthorne and HER wife.”

“Hawthorne’s granddaughter was a main character but I don’t understand the need to include sexuality of any kind in a movie marketed to children,” he continued. “I know that right now there is a big push to expose children to homosexuality, drag queens, transgenderism, identity confusion and a gigantic list of other things.”

“What happened to kids getting to be innocent?” he asked. “Why is it now acceptable and in some places mandated that children be immersed into the lgbtq……society.”

“My girls will not see the movie,” he said, adding, “Luckily, Aidan is young and distracted and didn’t understand what was going on.”

“It is time to stop being quiet while the world tries to corrupt our children,” he added. He then quoted 1 Pete 5:8: “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”

Although he has over ten thousand Facebook members in his group, many of the comments were from parents or other Facebook users that disagreed with him.

“Hey, if you didn't start a whole Facebook group about your outrage at Snow White kissing the prince, or Sebastian singing ‘Kiss the Girl,’ then you aren't concerned about sexuality or innocence, you just think your need to deceive your kids into thinking LGBT folks don't exist in our society ought to take priority over LGBT folks' right literally to exist in our society, and that's absolutely pathetic,” one user posted. The comment got 2.3K likes and hearts.

“Every children's movie has relationships - think about every Disney movie where the prince and princess fall in love,” another user wrote. “The fact is that sometimes the prince falls in love with a guy and the princess falls in love with a girl. It's perfectly natural for any movie to reflect reality.”

“Not seen the film, but surely (safely) exposing children and young people to real-life creates more rounded and accepting people?” another asked. “Wouldn't the world be a better place if we could all be more tolerant and accepting of each other!”

“Love is love. There are all kinds of people in this world. I would much rather have children watch stories about love than violence,” another user wrote. “Acceptance can be difficult and I wonder had it been a straight couple would you mind? What will you do if a family member of yours will have a lifestyle different than yours? You never know. I've always said. God has a sense of humor.”

“If it had been a husband, you wouldn't be complaining about her sexuality. You'd most likely not have noticed or thought anything of it,” said another. “We are privileged to see ourselves represented everywhere, all the time. We can afford others that grace, too.”

“Lightyear” is currently playing in theaters nationwide. The movie is expected to hit the Disney+ streaming service in the next few months.
