“Spider-Man: No Way Home” rocked the box office last winter and became an international sensation before “Top Gun: Maverick” hit theaters this Memorial Day weekend.
Fans of the Marvel franchise can look forward to hearing back into the theater this September, as Sony recently announced on Twitter that a new extended cut of the popular film will be back in theaters for a limited time.

Sony says that the new extended cut will include new, never-before-seen footage and deleted scenes to celebrate not only 60 years of the “Spider-Man” comic book character, but also 20 years of “Spider-Man” films.
As Entertainment Weekly reported, “Spider-Man: No Way Home” gave director John Watts his third run behind the camera. “Chaos Walking” actor Tom Holland reprised his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. After a favor from Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) turns sour, Peter and his friends need to battle villains from his past. The film also stars Zendaya, Willem Dafoe, Jamie Foxx, Jacob Batalon, and Marisa Tomei.
According to Box Office Mojo, the film is currently the sixth-highest grossing movie worldwide and has accumulated more than $1.9 billion dollars throughout its run. Only two Marvel movies have performed better. “Avengers: Endgame” raked in $2.8 billion dollars and “Avengers: Infinity War” brought in $2 billion dollars.
However, “Spider-Man: No Way Home” was notable in its success, as it was the first movie to hit the $1 billion dollar mark since the global COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020.
The film is the sixth-highest grossing movie of all time worldwide, with lifetime earnings of $1.9 billion, according to Box Office Mojo. In terms of Marvel properties, this places it behind only Avengers: Endgame, which has raked in almost $2.8 billion, and Avengers: Infinity War, with $2.0 billion. It also became the first film to hit the $1 billion mark worldwide during the pandemic.
The extended cut of the film will return to theaters on Friday, September 2, the beginning of Labor Day weekend. Tickets will be on sale starting August 9.
see you at the theater, besties 😉

Critics Are Still Raving About The Latest 'Spider-Man' Film
On Rotten Tomatoes, “Spider-Man: No Way Home” currently holds a certified 93% fresh rating and an audience score of 98%. Many of those who saw it had nothing but praise for the movie.
Linda Marric of The Jewish Chronicle called it, “A bombastic, crowdpleaser which is sharp, funny and just as chaotic as its titular character. Like a bratpack movie, it's a film about growing up, knowing one's place in the world and appreciating it for what it is.”
James Berardinelli of ReelViews wrote, “As superhero movies go, this one offers its share of satisfying moments and is guaranteed to warm the heart of any Spider-Man movie fan, regardless of when their fandom started.”
Dan Jolin of Empire Magazine wrote, “At the risk of getting cheesy, it won't just make you cheer, it'll make you want to hug your friends, too.”
Cary Darling of the Houston Chronicle called it “A deft, funny and surprisingly emotional superhero adventure that manages to provide both fan service for the Marvel faithful and breezy entertainment for those who wouldn't know Peter Parker from Peter Jackson.”
However, not all critics enjoyed the film, with most of those who didn't enjoy it criticizing the movie's lengthy runtime. Manohla Dargis of The New York Times wrote, “Like almost every Marvel production, this one is too long and, at two and a half hours, overstays its welcome. But before that, the movie nicely snaps and pops.”
Still, most critics didn’t mind the long runtime all that much. Adam Graham of Detroit News wrote, “Watts, who also helmed the previous two chapters in the series, mixes humor, action and human moments well, and he keeps the film moving nimbly, despite its nearly two-and-a-half-hour running time.”
It remains to be seen if critics will enjoy the extended cut of the film when it comes out. “Spider-Man: No Way Home” will return to theaters on Friday, September 2.
