On Sunday morning, the sister of Amber Heard, Whitney Henriquez, took to social media to show her support for her sister.
Whitney, who had testified on her sister’s behalf in her defamation trial against Johnny Depp, posted a black message box that reads #istandwithamberheard to her Instagram page.
Whitney Henriquez Shows Support For Sister After Jury Sides With Johnny Depp
Although both parties were found liable in their respective defamation lawsuits, the jury found that the “Aquaman” actress owed Depp $15 million dollars – $10 million compensatory and $5 million punitive – for her 2018 Washington Post op-ed, in which she declares herself a survivor of domestic abuse. The punitive damages were reduced from $5 million to $350,000 thousand dollars, the maximum that the state would allow.
However, Depp was also found to be liable for $2 million dollars of damages after his attorney called Heard’s abuse allegations “a hoax” and falsely claimed that the LAPD was investigating Heard for claims of perjury. Despite this, many are still going this a clear victory for the “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor, with the hashtag #JusticeForJohnnyDepp exploding after the trial.
On Sunday morning, Whitney took to Instagram to show support for her sister, making it clear that she was standing by her despite the overwhelming public response in Johnny Depp’s favor.
‘We knew that this was going to be an uphill battle and that the cards were stacked against us’
Whitney began her message, writing, “I still stand with you, sissy.”
“Yesterday, today and tomorrow I will always be proud of you for standing up for yourself, for testifying both here in Virginia and in the UK, and for being the voice of so many who can’t speak to the things that happen behind closed doors,” she continued. Depp had lost his 2020 libel suit against the British tabloid The Sun for labeling him a “wife-beater,” which is partially what made last week’s victory so surprising.
Whitney continued, “We knew that this was going to be an uphill battle and that the cards were stacked against us. But you stood up and spoke out regardless.”
“I am so honored to testify for you, and I would do it a million times over because I know what I saw and because the truth is forever on your side,” she continued. “I’m so sorry that it wasn’t reflected in the decision made by this jury, but I will never give up on you, and neither will anyone who stands with you.”
She concluded, “Forever by your side… #istandwithamberheard.”
Many fans showered the post with heart emojis. Several fans indicated that they also stood with Amber Heard and supported her allegations of physical, emotional, sexual, and psychological abuse. However, other users told her to “quit.” Another user said, “I feel sad for you. Not what we all saw! Poor you. One day maybe you will realize.”
Whitney Henriquez Supports Amber Heard By Testifying In The Trial
On Wednesday, May 18, Heard’s younger sister, Whitney Henriquez, 34, took the stand to defend her sibling. As The Blast previously reported, Whitney reported that Amber and Johnny “seemed really in love,” but noted that “The Adderall Diaries” actress began to change over time.
Whitney claimed that Depp made “light jokes” about Heard’s wardrobe and “then it intensified.” She told the jury that Depp was “controlling what [Heard] wore to events.” Whitney added that her sister’s clothing became “more and more conservative” as their relationship progressed.
Whitney also testified to the argument that the couple had on March 23, 2015, while Whitney was staying in one of Depp's L.A. penthouses. Whitney claimed that she woke up in the middle of the night with her sister in her room, saying, “Can you believe he’s cheating on me?”
Although Whitney tried to comfort her sister, she told the jury that Depp eventually got involved, which resulted in Heard and Depp “screaming horrible things at each other.” Whitney alleges that Depp called her sister a “used up trash bag.” In response, Heard allegedly called Depp “old and fat.”
During the argument, Whitney said that Depp struck her in the back. In response, Heard allegedly shouted, “Don’t hit my f---ing sister.” Whitney told the jury that Depp then grabbed Heard by the hair and struck her repeatedly across the face. The two women then retreated to a bedroom and locked the door.
Whitney claimed that Johnny screamed “I f---ing hate you” and other curse words through the door. Whitney said they could “hear smashing” as well. The next morning, Whitney said that Heard’s closet had been completely destroyed and art had been ripped off the walls.
When asked about her sister, Whitney said “Her reputation is all she has,” adding that, “Amber has worked so hard to overcome everything that she went through in the duration of their relationship, she really really tried her best to move past it.”
