A$AP Rocky Opens Up On Plans To 'Raise Open-Minded Children' With Singer Rihanna

Earlier this month, rapper A$AP Rocky and Fenty Beauty founder Rihanna broke the internet when news broke that they had welcomed their first child together, a son. They had been dating since 2020, and she revealed her pregnancy earlier this year.

During a recent summer 2022 cover interview with Dazed magazine, Rocky spoke about his vision of himself as a father, the happiness he and Rihanna share, some of their experiences together, and the values he wants at the forefront as they raise their kids. 

The 33-year-old rapper also spoke about his upcoming and highly-anticipated album, of which he has released the first song. Read on to find out what else he said about him and Rihanna's new baby boy, their relationship, and his career.

During the interview, Rocky spoke about how he plans to raise his kids and said, "I will always remind my children to never lose their imagination, even as adults, no matter what, I actually love to watch cartoons – I've watched like Teletubbies, Blue's Clues, Yo Gabba Gabba, Peppa Pig and Baby Shark."

He also said that he wants to raise "open-minded children" and not let them grow into "people who discriminate." The "Praise the Lord" rapper added, "And I'm not trying to describe a saint, but realistically, I just want a cool child with cool parents."

Although Rihanna gave birth a while back, the couple is yet to reveal the name of their baby boy, and during the interview, Rocky dropped no hints. He and Rihanna have kept a very low profile since the news of her birth broke and are spending private time together with their baby.

A source close to Rihanna and Rocky recently told People magazine that the couple is "doing great" as they transition into their new roles as parents. The person stated that they, especially Rihanna, are in no hurry to get back to work and leave their son.

The source said, "Being a new parent is of course an adjustment, but they are doing great. Their baby boy is healthy and Rihanna is just in awe of him. She really was so excited to be pregnant. She loved it. Meeting her son was of course extremely special too."

The person added, "Rihanna barely leaves his side. She is a fantastic mom. She wanted to give birth in L.A. since she has a big house with a yard. She enjoys sitting outside with her baby," and particularly enjoys their quiet moments together.

Rihanna and Rocky have done a lot of things together, aside from birthing their first child. In December 2020, they visited Barbados, the "Needed Me" singer's native home and the country where Rocky's late father is from.

Rocky himself was raised in New York City, but during the interview, he explained that the experience of visiting Barbados with Rihanna was "surreal," considering that it is where his family and his girlfriend are from. 

He said, "It was honestly so unbelievable. I had some family there that only came up once every five years, family I only spoke to over the phone my whole life. I was raised to know about my heritage, but I was missing the actual experience. I didn't get to experience it until I was an adult."

During the interview, Rocky also teased about his upcoming album, which he said is "more of a concept project." He also revealed that he's been listening to "a lot of '60s and '70s rock, like the Rolling Stones, The Monkees, T. Rex, Jefferson Airplane and Jimi Hendrix."

He said, "I'm wrapping up the new album now. I don't want to be cliché or sound like a salesman, but I've pushed myself to the limit on everything. Going from that industrial, subversive sound from Testing and then graduating with a more polished sound… I just like where it is."

Rocky already dropped the first single off the album, "D.M.B," and the song came with a video that starred Rihanna as the couple showed off their love and staged a fake wedding ceremony.
