Actor Johnny Depp and ex-wife Amber Heard continue to make headlines as the trial approaches closing arguments on Friday.
The couple has been facing each other at the Fairfax County Circuit Court for most of the past month. The “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor is suing his ex-wife for $50 million over a December 2018 op-ed Heard wrote for the Washington Post where she claims that she is a domestic violence survivor. Although she did not mention Depp by name, he claims that he has lost movie roles due to the “clear implication” that he was her abuser. Heard claims that she has also been losing out on movie roles, including several scenes from the upcoming “Aquaman” sequel, and is countersuing for $100 million dollars.
On Monday, Depp was supposed to be called to the stand by Heard's legal team. However, they later changed their minds and Depp will not testify. However, Depp's team called Kate Moss to the witness stand first thing on Wednesday morning. Her testimony was followed by Dr. Curry, who testified that she did not believe Heard to have PTSD.
After a morning break, Johnny Depp was back on the stand to deny allegations made by Amber Heard regarding abuse and his drug use. Depp faced off with Heard's attorney, Ben Rottenborn, after lunch. Shortly after, a former TMZ employee testified about the Amber Heard paparazzi tip.
Norbert Neumeister Takes The Stand To Testify On Amber Heard Photos
Norbert "Bryan" Neumeister, a metadata expert, was next to take the stand. He described himself as the CEO of USA Forensic and said he owns a digital forensic company that he describes as "very small."
Neumeister said that when dealing with RBG cameras, he investigates four types of scopes. He said that he investigated Amber Heard's photos of her bruises to see if they were digitally altered in any way.
Neumeister said that photos will not "digitally fingerprint" each other and said there was no way to authenticate any photo in the way that the evidence was presented. He also showed jurors demonstratives that showed the breakdown of the analytics he ran on each photo.
Beverly R. Leonard Testifies About Airport Altercation With Amber Heard And 'Traveling Companion'
Beverly R. Leonard, who worked at the airport in the baggage claim area, testified that she met Heard in 2009. She saw Heard with a "traveling companion" when they got into an "altercation." She said Heard had "grabbed her traveling companion and pulled something from her neck." She said that she called in a colleague to assist her and stepped in between them and broke up the fight.
She described Heard's behavior as "aggressive." She said that Heard's eyes were "blurry" and "watery" and "I could smell alcohol."
When asked about any injuries from the fight, she said that Heard's traveling companion had "rope burn" from the side of her neck where Heard had "removed" it. She said she became aware of the trial after she received an anonymous email.
Elaine Bredehoft, Heard's attorney, pointed out that the incident happened 13 years ago and accused Leonard of only participating in the trial after she found out that it was going to be on television. She said that she reached out and contacted Depp's legal team last night.
After Leonard testified, Judge Penney Azcarate called it for the day. Depp's legal team reportedly only has one more witness to call to the stand. On Thursday, Heard's legal team will be able to present more witnesses as per their countersuit. Closing arguments are still on track for Friday, at which point the trial will be handed over to the jury.
