Actor Ewan McGregor is happy to return to a galaxy far, far away and reprise his role as the titular “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” who he last played in the prequel series.

Although the Disney+ series is marketed as a six-episode limited series, the Emmy-award-winning actor is hoping for a second season.

Earlier this week, the “Halston” actor and several Lucasfilm execs sat down with Entertainment Weekly to discuss his thoughts on a possible second season.

Writer Joby Harold told EW that he doesn’t know if there’s “a story beyond the story we’re telling now.”

“With these things, we always think of it as a complete story with the beginning and a middle and an end,” he explained. “And so we very much thought of it in that way, as its own story, its own narrative, its own journey for this character between Episode III and Episode IV.”

Director Deborah Chow also told the outlet, “It was definitely conceived as a limited series and it is one big story with a beginning, middle, and end. So that's the way we've always approached it. The approach has always been that it is one full story.”

When they asked Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, she said “It’s certainly something we talk about, mainly because everybody came together and had such an incredible time. Ewan had an incredible time. Hayden had an incredible time.”

Kennedy continued, “So certainly from that point of view, everybody involved would love to see this not end. But we have to really spend our time asking the question: Why would we do it? If we were to decide to do anything more with the Obi-Wan character, we'd have to really answer the question why?”

'Yeah, I Would Like To Make Another One'

Ewan McGregor himself said that “It was made as a one-off limited series and, in a way, it does do what I wanted it to do in terms of bridging a story between III and IV and bringing me closer to Alec Guinness' Obi-Wan in A New Hope.” But when it came to a possible second season, he said, “Yeah, I would like to make another one.”

“I had such a great time working with Deb, and the actors that we had in this were so great to work with, and the crew are just... I can't tell you,” he continued. “It was so wonderful to work on. I couldn't wait to get to work every day, and on a long shoot like this, that's something. Right to the end, I just loved the experience of it.”

He continued, “There's something very nice about doing work that you know people are going to see. I've spent a lot of time in my career making films that very few people ever saw, and there's something nice about going to work when you know this has already got its audience.”

Another reason why McGregor wants to return to a galaxy far, far away? The fans.

“It sounds a bit pretentious, but it's nice to make people happy,” McGregor explained. “It's nice to know that by all of our efforts in making this Obi-Wan Kenobi series, the fans are going to be stoked. I think they're not going to be disappointed by it. Maybe some will, but you can't please all the people all the time. But knowing that people are going to be happy because of our work is a nice feeling.”

Although it’s currently unclear whether or not McGregor and the rest of the cast and crew will return for the second season of “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” fans are just glad that they got to watch him and Hayden Christensen reprise their roles as the fan-favorite characters potentially for the last time.

“Obi-Wan Kenobi” is currently available to stream on Disney+ with new episodes available every Wednesday.
