'The Office': Jenna Fischer And Angela Kinsey Revealed Iconic Show Was Almost Renewed

"The Office" actresses and best friends Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey still have a lot to say about some behind-the-scenes moments of the popular sitcom. The duo starred in the series as Pam Beesly and Angela Martin. 

Fischer and Kinsey launched a podcast for the series in late 2019, where they talked about the episodes of the show and answered fans' questions about what happened backstage. The hosts also occasionally brought guests like former co-stars and the show's writers and producers on the podcast. 

In a recent interview about their new book, "The Office BFFs: Tales of The Office From Two Best Friends Who Were There," the friends revealed that NBC offered the series two extra seasons. However, at the time, several contracts were expired, and moving on without the rest of the cast would be "sad and wrong." 

Fischer and Kinsey recently revealed (Via Screen Rant) that the popular NBC sitcom "The Office" almost continued airing for two more seasons. The show was first released in March 2005 and wrapped up in May 2013, with nine seasons. 

In the duo's upcoming book, "The Office BFFs: Tales of The Office From Two Best Friends Who Were There," they shed more light on the almost extension. They said the decision to stop in season nine was because several contracts were up, and it would be "sad and wrong" to proceed. 

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the best friends revealed that the show's producer, Greg Daniels, initially told the cast about NBC's decision to give them two more seasons. However, the crew had concerns about how the hit show would proceed. 

When NBC's offer came in, several longtime writers of the show had already left, some of which were Mindy Kaling and B.J. Novak. In addition, a number of the cast had contracts that were due. Regardless, Daniels still shared the news with several of them and asked how they felt about the show's ending. 

Recalling the time, Kinsey described the move as "very thoughtful" of the producer. She said, "I obviously can't speak for [producer] Greg [Daniels], but I know they really, what they've shared with us is that they really, it was a very thoughtful decision of, well, what is the show without possibly the core cast?" 

Her former castmate, Fischer, concurred, admitting she wasn't particularly fond of the idea of losing people. "I mean, the idea of slowly kind of losing people. It just felt like; I don't know. It just felt sad and wrong," she said. 

Still, on the topic of the series' almost extension, Kinsey added that giving the series more episodes would "ruin" "The Office" world, especially if they had to make up excuses for some of the casts' absence. She said, "It felt wrong. It felt wrong and like it would just ruin the [Office] world to slowly make up excuses of why people are leaving. One of the things I loved, and we all got excited about, was being able to know what the end was." 

The actress also revealed that Daniels asked all the cast members to pitch storylines for their characters and tell the producer what they had in mind for the character's future. "Greg did this amazing thing that was so kind where he invited us all in to meet with him, to talk about what is something we always hoped for our character, or we had always hoped for the show. And we got to share with him. And I mean, that was just such a gracious thing he did." 

Besides their recently released book, "The Office BFFs: Tales of The Office From Two Best Friends Who Were There," Kinsey and Fischer also have a podcast called Office Ladies. The first episode was released on October 16, 2019, on the Earwolf platform. 

The duo deconstructed each episode of the workplace comedy and gave some insight into the behind-the-scenes commentary in response to fans' questions. The actresses were occasionally joined by other "The Office" actors and producers and writers of the show. 

According to the actresses, they aim to cover every show of the nine-season sitcom on the podcast. The managing producer of the show is Codi Fischer, with Sam Kieffer as the podcast's audio engineer.
