Neil Patrick Harris Issues Statement About Dead Amy Winehouse Buffet Platter

Neil Patrick Harris has one major regret that he’s now speaking out about.
The “How I Met Your Mother” actor is kicking himself for an insensitive joke he and his husband made over 11 years ago.
Harris and his husband, David Burtka, hosted a Halloween party in 2011 with a massive guest list of A-listers.
The couple thought it would be funny to incorporate the dark side of Hollywood into their holiday party.
Their 2011 Halloween Joke Came Back To Haunt Them!
Months prior to their “Monster Mash,” Grammy-winning singer, Amy Winehouse, tragically passed away from alcohol poisoning on July 23, 2011.
She was 27-years-old at the time of her death.
Harris and Burtka thought it would be funny to have a deceased corpse made to resemble Amy Winehouse for their Halloween party.
It gets worse.
NPH & Burtka Mocked Amy Winehouse's Death At Halloween Party
What they chose to do with the corpse was downright horrific.
They used the corpse, which had a black beehive hairdo and a cigarette hanging out of its mouth, as a buffet platter to serve food on.
The couple even went as far as putting a label on it which read, “The Corpse of Amy Winehouse.”
The photo was published to Twitter by Justin Mikita, who has since deleted the tweet.

As you can imagine, people were just as disturbed then as they were when it resurfaced this year.
“I just read about @ActuallyNPH’s gross meat platter arranged to look like Amy Winehouse’s dead corpse at a party & I’m sorry but there is a serious lack of human empathy and decency there. Anyone thinking that it’s a normal thing to do at any period of time is not quite right,” one fan tweeted.
One person wrote, “I fully can’t get my head around why doing something like that would even cross someone’s mind she was a human being, 27 years old.”
The backlash has been intense to say the least and NPH felt the need to speak out about his regretful decision.
In an exclusive statement to Entertainment Weekly, the actor said, “A photo recently resurfaced from a Halloween-themed party my husband and I hosted 11 years ago. It was regrettable then, and it remains regrettable now.”
NPH Apologizes For His Insensitivity!
He continued, “Amy Winehouse was a once-in-a-generation talent, and I'm sorry for any hurt this image caused."
Last year, something similar happened; however, this took place at a child’s first birthday party!
In 2021, the world was gripped by the horrifying true crime tale of Gabby Petito’s disappearance.
After a missing person report was filed on September 11, 2021, for Gabby, all eyes turned to her fiancé, Brian Laundrie.
Sadly, Gabby’s life was taken by her fiancé after the two embarked on a cross-country roadtrip in her conversion van.
The couple was visiting different National Parks across the United States.
A manhunt for Laundrie began in Florida after he returned home to North Port, FL. in early September without Gabby.
The manhunt lasted weeks until his remains were discovered and confirmed by dental records.
A man by the name of Jack Bersh decided it would be fun to create a Brian Laundrie-themed dish for his child’s first birthday.
A fake skeleton was adorned with pancetta, salami and pepperoni deli meat to signify rotting skin.
Not only that, the skeleton had gummy worms coming out of the eye sockets, mouth and nose cavity, and Laundrie’s name was scribble on a blackboard cauldron.
He posted the photo on an Aldi fans Facebook page.
Bersh wrote alongside the photo, “We did this with Aldi food for my daughter’s first birthday.”
He must’ve prematurely expected some backlash, because he continued writing, “If you don’t like it that’s fine. We all thought it was funny and I would understand if I’m no longer a part of this group tomorrow morning.”
