Reba McEntire To Star As A Regular In Season 3 Of ABC Drama 'Big Sky'

As "Big Sky" season 2 wraps up, the showrunners at ABC have renewed the series for a third season, of which production would start following the current season finale.

Based on New York Times best-selling novelist C.J. Box's Highway books, both the novels and the TV series chronicle the work-life of private detective Cassie Dewell (Kylie Bunbury) and undersheriff Jenny Hoyt (Katheryn Winnick), Dewell's former partner.

While the actors mentioned above will reprise their roles in the following season, new television stars will be making their first appearances in the crime drama. Reba McEntire, an American country singer, and actress, is at the top of the list and is set to feature in the series as a regular.

McEntire's debut in the ABC crime drama will showcase a new aspect of her acting abilities. The actress, who is most known for her roles in comedy series, will take on a fresh challenge in her forthcoming film that has nothing to do with comedy or singing.

In season three, McEntire will join the cast as a season regular, making appearances as the Sunny Brick character. As per Deadline, Brick is the "mercurial matriarch of the Brick Family, a successful backcountry outfitter with a secret history of missing customers."

The story behind McEntire's role reveals that viewers can expect a lot of exciting scenes centered on the Brick family, whose behind-the-scenes lives are shrouded in intrigue. Given that the actress is a regular in the future chapter, McEntire's and Dewell's paths will meet in the series in the long run.

However, the breadth of this narrative is unknown at this time, but it should be an intriguing series to watch when it premieres.

Also joining McEntire in the "Big Sky" cast for season three is acclaimed "Supernatural" star Jensen Ackles. According to Deadline, Ackles will guest star in the upcoming season finale as Beau Arlen. His character is "a confident and charming good ol' boy from Texas who steps in as temporary sheriff and Jenny Hoyt's new boss as a favor to his friend Sheriff Tubb."

Subsequently, he will reprise the role in Season 3 for a one-season arc and might return if the series is extended for another season. "Big Sky 3" will also see the return of numerous fan favorites apart from Winnick and Bunbury.

Brian Geraghty will return as Ronald Pergman, Dedee Pfeiffer as Denise Brisbane, Omar Metwally playing Mark Lindor, Anja Savcic as Scarlet Leyendecker, and Janina Gavankar as Ren are among the cast members so far.

Another intriguing aspect of the impending sequel is Winnick's upcoming directing debut in future episodes. During her interview with Collider, the actress hinted at this and described how she originally joined the cast of the show.

"I don't know if I was nervous," Winnick told the publication. "I was probably nervous signing up for years, but when David Kelley calls you, you listen. And when he asks you to be on the show, you take note. But I think [with] the show, we're finding our way in terms of storyline."

"The format of the show is we get new actors every nine episodes," she added. "Which is always a lot of fun and keeps things moving. So we have an opportunity to work with some great, talented cast members. And I'm also excited to get a chance to direct it as well."

"Big Sky" premiered on television in 2020 and has since given multiple unique narrative lines starring a diverse cast of characters that have kept viewers interested in the show for the long haul.

Seasons one and two follow Dewell and Hoyt as they investigate local crimes, take on drug cartels, infamous kidnappers, and criminal dynasties, and save innocent victims from the perpetrators of such crimes.

As a result, more of this will be shown in season three, as battling crime is the series' centerpiece. As for personal connections, the forthcoming season may see shifting allegiances as the characters face more pressure from work challenges.

The release date for "Big Sky 3" is yet unknown. However, it is expected to be sometime in 2023.
