While in an interview on Dear Media's It Sure Is A Beautiful Day with Catt Sadler, she opened up about how she let go of the hurt she had for her husband following the divorce.

After being asked if she felt anger for her husband, she mentioned that she has "forgiven Mike" and feels no grudge towards him.

"I realized that for a year I was holding on to waiting for an apology and I realized that I'm never going to get it the way that I want it, [with] the words that I want spoken. "

After that realization dawned on her, her therapist taught her a new coping mechanism which made all the difference.

"My therapist, she made me write this letter from him," she mentioned, per People. "It was from me and that was in a way, even though it wasn't his words, it's what I needed to hear. And it was so healing and so helpful."

She continued, "I remember just going like, 'I don't want to have to be the one to carry this stuff. ' He doesn't care anymore. Why am I putting so much in? Forgiveness isn't for the other person, it is for me so that I don't have to be shackled down by the past."

Kramer announced the news via her Instagram in April 2021, adding that it was time for them to go their separate ways.

"It's time. As I try to make sense of a reality I never wanted to believe could be possible again, those words have now become a reality," Kramer wrote in her post. "I've fought y'all. I've loved hard. I've forgiven. I've put the work in. I've given everything I have, and now I have nothing else to give. "

She specifically thanked her loved ones while asking for a space to heal.

This, however, was the first time the pair separated. In the early days of their marriage, Kramer split from her husband over cheating allegations. Per Us Weekly, the couple later reconciled in 2017 as the ex-NFL football player sought treatment over his sex addiction.

She And Her Kids Will 'Be Okay'

In her interview with Extra, she explained that the "mysterious social media messages" were the marriage ender in addition to the cheating allegations.

"That and some more," she confirmed, adding, "Let's just say it was bad enough that I had no choice."

She added that she stayed in the marriage for that long because of her kids. After the marriage ended, she was initially angry at Caussin but later moved to acceptance, given that there was nothing she could really do about it.

"Now, I am like, 'Okay, it sucks and it's unfair and it's not what I dreamt of for my family, for my kids, now I have to figure out how to accept it."

She disclosed that her daughter is aware of the family's situation. "Jolie knows and she's kind of telling everyone, which kind of breaks my heart," she told Extra. "She's like, 'Daddy and Mommy have different houses.'"

While Jace had a more challenging time accepting it, Kramer maintained her kids would be OK. "They've always had both of us," Kramer shared. "We both are essentially stay-at-home parents."

Following the legal proceedings, Kramer has requested the custody of her two kids and that her estranged husband cover the legal fees.

A week after her divorce, the country singer shared an update with her fans on how she was fairing.

"Hey guys, it feels weird to be back on here," Jana Kramer began, via her Instagram. "I have to start getting used to my new normal and, I guess, forgive me for not really knowing how to walk that yet."

She revealed that she wasn't going to "put a band-aid on things" or distract herself, but instead, she was going to "grieve and heal."

"But I do wanna start getting back to having some normalcy, even in my new normal, so that's with you guys," she added.

She concluded her update by thanking her fans for their support, adding, "this means more than you'd ever know."
