Selena Gomez Apologizes For Video Fans Claim Was Shady Towards Hailey Bieber

Celebrity lives are always under scrutiny from fans who constantly maximize every single minute detail in order to stir up drama and create controversy. That's what has been happening to the likes of Selena Gomez, and Hailey Bieber.

Following Justin Bieber's split from Selena in 2018 after a long-term on-and-off relationship, the "Yummy" crooner moved on to Hailey. Five months later, they tied the knot at a New York City house.

And while they've been broken up for four years now, it'd appear that fans aren't totally over the couple formerly known as "Jelena." They keep pitting Selena and Hailey at any chance they get. They misconstrue each person's social media activities as a subtext to the other person, as they did recently.

On May 10, Hailey posted a video clip of her skincare routine on Tiktok. Selena also posted a skincare video a few hours later in which she appeared to roll her eyes in certain instances. Fans quickly assumed that her attitude in the video was directed at her ex-lover's wife, Hailey.

"LOL I know who she's referring to," a commenter wrote, according to a screenshot shared by a social media user. Another added, "Wait…is she tryna make fun of you know who?"

Another fan said, "It's giving 'I'm a performative loser who blatantly gets away with bullying other women.'"

Another follower responded, "The way she twisted her eyes in every step."

Following these comments, Selena realized what was going on and instantly made it clear that she wasn't throwing shade at anyone or being petty as seen in a screenshot from a fan account.

"This is why I believe in taking care of your mental health," she wrote. "Guys no idea what I did but I really am sorry. Zero bad intention. Deleting soon."

She turned off comments underneath the video, and many other fans came to her defense after the apology.

"Don't apologize," a fan wrote. "You did nothing wrong, just keep doing you!" Another follower added, "She was just showing off her skincare, people need to leave her alone." 

Before this time, Hailey had previously pleaded with Selena's fan base to let her be, as she constantly suffered the brunt of social media backlash.

"Enough time has gone by," the model said. "I'm minding my business. I don't do anything, I don't say anything. Leave me alone, please."

Although fans have tried to pit them against each other, they have shown no signs of bad blood. Also, when there were rumors of tension between them, they were quick to quash them.

For instance, after Selena's 2019 "Lose You To Love Me," was released, Hailey posted a screenshot of Summer Walker's "I'll Kill You," which aroused suspicion. However, Selena quickly slammed down speculations of animosity between her and Hailey. She also urged her fanbase to be respectful.

"I am so grateful for the response of the song," Selena responded at the time. "However, I will never stand for women tearing other women down. So please be kind to everyone."

On the other hand, Hailey also spoke about how social media can be a breeding place for toxicity and how it can put women against each other and build up false narratives.

"I think that has to change and that has to stop. I think there needs to be more people with platforms coming together and saying to each other, 'let's kill the conversation, let's kill the fake drama, let's squash all these things, let's move on from stuff. Let's not give people a reason to fuel fire and create drama and being rude to each other,'" she concluded, per British Vogue.

With the reality of the effects of social media, the singer has decided to stay off social media for years now. She told Instyle that she handed over her passwords to her team, although she still created her content.

"I created a system where I still don't have my passwords. And the unnecessary hate and comparisons went away once I put my phone down. I'll have moments where that weird feeling will come back, but now I have a much better relationship with myself."

The pair had been erratic for years before calling it off in 2018. According to an insider, the ex-couple cited "trust issues" as one of their reasons for breaking up.

"She has trust issues. He has trust issues. There's a lot going on there. They do this all the time. They get into arguments," the insider concluded.
