In a candid interview with PEOPLE on Sunday, May 8, Hall spoke about motherhood and how Mother's Day offers the opportunity to celebrate mother figures. She said:

"For me, I have three nieces and a nephew who refer to me as their other mom, and I've always felt very appreciated on this day by them."

The "Tamron Hall" star noted that she did not have children early in life, and there are people who played the role of mother figures in her life that need to be honored. She buttressed, "it is an important day for me."

"I happen to have a son now, but I was a mother figure for those four children all of their lives. The oldest is now 21. And while my mother is, and has always been a very strong presence in my life, I've had teachers, aunts, people who went to church with us, who served as a mother figure in my life."

The "Today's Take" alum touched on the values of motherhood and how she balances raising her toddler with managing her demanding career.

The TV personality admitted that she is yet to figure out everything but ensures to give her full attention to every moment. She said:

"I don't know what balance feels like. I know what being present feels like. So for me, some days I feel that I've succeeded, and other days, of course, I feel like I've fallen short of where I want to be as a mom for Moses."

Hall's goal is to be present with her son in every interaction and keep her phone away to give him her time. She called this approach the best.

The talk show host spoke on how mothers tend to measure themselves against unreal standards and battle guilt and shame,  which she also felt. She admitted that she is a work in progress, adding:

"But there's such great advice and such great conversation that we can have with other moms every day to uplift rather than wallow in some of those difficult days. So for me, I don't know what balance feels like. I just know what it feels like to try."

Hall also reflected on spending time with Moses and how small moments such as singing with him and listening to his laughter are a more glorious feeling than she could have imagined.
